Strandlopertjie offers two luxury rooms situated right on the beach of the picturesque town of Paternoster on the West Coast. Breakfast is not included, however all shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Strandlopertjie Self-catering offers two comfortable units, each consisting of an open-plan bedroom with a double bed and an en-suite bathroom. Other facilities include DStv, kitchenettes and braai areas overlooking the ocean. Unit 1 also features an indoor fireplace and Unit 2 is wheelchair friendly.

With its white-washed fisherman cottages that lie along the beaches, it is definitely one of the most attractive villages on the West Coast, and is only 150 km from Cape Town. Small colourful fishing vessels go to sea every morning at dawn, returning in the afternoon with the catch of the day.

Watch the whales and dolphins in the bay, hike, kayak or simply stroll on the beaches and enjoy the beautiful sunset while having a cocktail or two. Visit Cape Columbine Light House and Nature Reserve on your way to Tietiesbaai, browse through one of the local shops where you will find fine artists and potters at work, or experience true West Coast hospitality at one of the restaurants.

Paternoster is the ideal base from which to visit nearby towns like Riebeek Kasteel and Darling. Enjoy wine tasting at the excellent wine estates in the area and bird-watching in Veldrift. Visit the West Coast Fossil Park near Hopefield or consider spending a day in the West Coast National Park, which is particularly beautiful in spring, with a kaleidoscope of colourful spring flowers.

This 4 Star, four-bedroom guest house offers stunning accommodation and facilities just 20 m from the beach. The interiors, soft furnishings and textures reflect a unique combination of the West Coast’s seashells, beaches and wild flowers. Enjoy delectable breakfasts each morning while you look over a manicured lawn with the sea just behind it.

Baywatch Guest House is situated in the small, unspoilt, tranquil crayfishing village of Paternoster, an all year round destination halfway between everywhere on the West Coast, just 150 km north of Cape Town on the coastal road R27 via Vredenburg on the R45. Paternoster is famous for its traditional fisherman’s architecture and endless pristine beaches. You may also be lucky and get a peek at the rare African Black Oystercatcher. Whales and dolphins frequent the bay and if they are in residence, you will see the whales blow and splash around in the water, while the dolphins love to surf the waves.

Millions of indigenous flowers densely carpet the earth in bright bursts of colour in springtime. There are also wonderful restaurants to tempt the palate with crayfish, oysters, line fish and calamari. For those who prefers to stay on land, succulent Karoo lamb or steaks cooked to perfection are on offer.

Paternoster is considered by many to be the most magical destination on the West Coast of Southern Africa. Where else in the region would you find such an irresistible combination of pristine beach, white-washed village charm and little to disturb the gentle, soothing atmosphere a mere hour away from Cape Town. Famously friendly, Paternoster has much of the rustic, idyllic character one would expect from a tiny Mediterranean island. In fact, it's one of the last traditional fishing villages on the West Coast.

Characterized by interior sensibility and casual elegance, Paternoster Dunes Boutique Guest House is ideal for guests seeking off-the-beaten-track comfort and style. In-house amenities include a carefully appointed intimacy lounge and cocktail bar, a small but eclectic library, and solar heated pools. While few establishments can boast vast, uninterrupted sea views, our guest house is nestled on the dunes with the Atlantic Ocean quite literally on the doorstep.

Individually decorated, all six rooms include percale cotton linen, air-conditioning, electric blankets, a tea and coffee station, international cable television, complimentary wireless Internet, complimentary Rooibos bath and body products from the region, a minibar fridge, bathrobes, a hairdryer, and a nightly turndown service.

Hosts Deon and Gavin will delight you with local knowledge of the town, its history, the best dining experiences, and things to see and do. For a romantic refuge or place to unwind, our guest house guarantees a stylish and affordable boutique experience.

    Paternoster South Africa

    Paternoster Guest House Accommodation

Paternoster is an idyllic beach holiday getaway, perfect for plenty of eating, reading, snoozing or doing nothing at all. Numerous inlets offer hideaways where you can work on your suntan, watch whales and dolphins or catch a fish. During August and September the spring wildflowers transform the landscape into a vivid carpet of daisies.

Beer monkeys and rugby fans usually head over to the ‘Panty Bar’ at the Paternoster Hotel, aptly nicknamed for the frilly canopy of lacy undies. Here you can get cheap beer and locally made pub grub – evil looking rollmops, sundried snoek biltong, pickled mussels or the West Coast delicacy, salty bokkoms. It's essential to try bokkoms at least once.

You can purchase flapping fresh fish from the beach when the brightly painted little fishing boats come ashore. Snoek, geelbek, harder and hottentot are the usual catches – perfect for sizzling over the coals. There’s also a fish market right next to the beach. And then there’s kreef, red gold of the West Coast. The crayfish season usually begins in November and runs until April. Don’t forget to pack your diving gear and permit.

The atmospheric village shop, Die Winkel, is a Paternoster institution. Heap your basket with snoeksout, West Coast and Swartland wines, Ou Kaapse blatjang, cupcakes and other freshly baked goodies. It’s worth setting some time aside for a leisurely lunch in the garden.

Itchy feet? Grab a bike and cycle 4 km to the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve and Tietiesbaai. Here you’ll be able to summit one of the last manned lighthouses in South Africa and explore the sandveld-fynbos clad dunes. Tietiesbaai has some lovely picnic spots and basic overnight campsites hiding between large granite boulders. For an adventurous ‘roughing it’ experience, stay at the Beach Camp and go on a sea-kayaking trip.
