Description
Head to Jozi's hot spot where trendy suburbanites and gourmets gather on Saturday mornings
The aim of the Jozi Food Market is twofold – to give specialty suppliers an outlet that was convenient to shoppers as well as to provide shoppers with great, home-grown and natural products. Shoppers arriving to buy goats’ cheese find that the goats come to market too, delighting many shoppers under the age of four years!
Johannesburgers are extremely proud of their sunny weather and this market provides another occasion where shoppers and their four footed friends can stroll around in the sun and then sit back and enjoy the shade with some homemade lemonade (or a bowl of cool water) and delicious treats.
The market has two distinct shoppers – those that are coming to stock up for the weekend and those that are coming to enjoy breakfast, coffee or lunch in the sun. There are no restaurants but lots of tables and benches in the shade and customers have been known to arrive with picnic baskets full of their own crockery and cutlery and champagne, to be filled with produce from the market and enjoyed right there at one of the tables.
Jozi is a vibrant city, and is known for the fact that its people are busy and constantly on the move. It has certainly never been called sleepy hollow but this is a place to relax, taste some quality delights and bump into friends.
Open 08:30 – 13:30 at the Pirate's Sports Club on 4th Ave Ext, Parkhurst.
