Description
Mmm... summer is here and that means the sultry sunset concerts are back. The Old Mutual Encounters Series is a celebration of the success of partnership, in this case between Claire Philips and Neo Muyanga. Artists from markedly different genres are chosen to collaborate; to create a special, once-in-a-lifetime performance for the Kirstenbosch stage.
SAMA award winner Claire envelops you in her special brand of South African music. Claire Phillips’ vocal range and precision guitar have been hailed as the hottest new talent on the music scene.
As a vocalist and songwriter her repertoire spans jazz, funk, soul and folk. When you place her with the extraordinary talent of composer/performer Neo Muyanga (ex Blk Sonshine) the musical combination is set to blow you away.
Neo performs on a variety of acoustic instruments and will delight the audience with his compositions.
He is a founder-member of the acoustic duo, Blk Sonshine, popular throughout southern Africa and America for their soul, hip-hop and jazz-infused roots music.
Composing for choir and other kinds of ensemble, Neo has composed music for contemporary dance and the dramatic stage as well as cinema and television.
Neo continues to tour throughout South Africa and Europe, performing on nylon string guitar, acoustic piano and
mesinko (a traditional Ethiopian bowed instrument).
