Nairobi Travel Guide

Nairobi is the capital and the largest city of Kenya, and is known as the safari capital of Africa. Nairobi is truly a cosmopolitan and multicultural city. This is a land of great contrasts where race, tribe and origin all combine to create a uniqu ...

Nairobi, City of flavour - My visit to Nairobi was one that introduced a new meaning to the word hospitality. The people are friendly, the restaurants enchanting and different in offering. One can not help but be immersed in the different flavours Nairobi offers. The city is constantly alive and the energy there is contagious.

Chaotic, energetic, infectious - Nairobi is the kind of place that's hard to describe unless you've been there. It feels like a head-on collision between Africa and the West, a chaotic, cosmopolitan buffet of industry and poverty, which co-exist side by side beneath rapidly rising skyscrapers and dangling electric cables. It's a city currently experiencing growing pains, its streets unable to cater for the amount of business taking place alongside them, resulting in hair-tearing, soul-crushing traffic, which runs from 5am well into the night. But there's no way a small issue like traffic could deter the ever-optimistic 'Nairobites', who boast possibly the best work ethic I've ever experienced, going about their 12 hour days without ever letting the smiles leave their faces. And while the jam of the city centre can be claustrophobic, there are plenty of spots to seek refuge nearby. The Nairobi National Park, which sits right on the edge of the southern end of the city, is a sprawling, Acacia-lined reserve, which plays home to plenty of predators, including numerous lions. From the park, you can see the city's ever-growing skyline peeking up in the distance - perhaps this is the view that best defines this puzzling, pulsating city - a flourishing metropolis with its roots firmly in Africa.
