Description
It's green, it's groovy and a good dose of fun! Jungle Theatre Company is back with a bigger and brighter Pick Up Litter Parade in Muizenberg. Don’t miss this family fun afternoon, which creatively tackles the very visible problem of litter and waste in the Muizenberg precincts.
You're invited to join the parade and dress up as your favorite sea creature or just come as yourself and follow the giant Shark, Octopus and Turtle puppets crafted from waste and the mobile musicians along the beach.
Ocean Minded is providing gloves and bags for all who want to join in the creative litter clean up and challenge everyone on the beach to find the strangest piece of litter. Beat It drummers will set the pace of the parade to get everyone on the beach dancing and singing. Zandvlei Trust will be giving a short talk about litter and pollution in our area.
Up for grabs are fabulous prizes for dressing up and litter collection - donated by Ocean Minded and Planet Kids, Sunrise Productions and others. At the end of the parade everyone is encouraged to decorate a driftwood Christmas tree with the litter. The tree will be a reminder, through the busy festive season, to not litter and keep the beach clean.
The large carnival puppets are made by Grade 4 learners at Muizenberg Junior School, Levana Primary and Zerilda Park Primary in 2008 with Kommetjie Environmental Awareness Group’s
Ilithalomsa project. The project continues with 2009’s Grade 4s who produced a showcase at the Muizenberg Pavilion called Kiss Waste Goodbye about reducing, reusing and recycling.
Jungle Theatre Company’s aim is to create awareness about the problems of litter, get the public to have fun understanding and addressing pollution and to grow this annual event into beach carnival culture.
Other local organizations supporting the initiative include: Where Rainbows Meet and Save Our Seas Shark Centre. Be there!
