Description
Get blown away by Africa's biggest kite festival! Hundreds of colourful kites big and small will flutter and swoop about in Cape Town’s sky this October. Expect to see a diverse array ranging from gorgeous and enormous inflatable numbers floating like clouds to acrobatic stunt kites performing swift and powerful manoeuvres. Every kid young and old will be blown away with the sight of hundreds of spectacular show kites, flown by international teams and local kiters from Cape Town and Durban. Come along and fly your own kite or just enjoy watching the amazing kite spectacle.
So, what else is up? Food stalls, giant inflatables, kite-making workshops, kiddies’ rides, a craft market and exhibition of health products and services there will be lots to interest and entertain the whole family. Just so that you don’t take off too early there’ll be live entertainment - Heart 104.9 FM will be broadcasting live on both days; come and meet the Heart DJs face to face. Kids will be kept busy with lots of fun things to do.
Up, up and away for an uplifting global purpose. By filling the sky with kites, Cape Mental Health is making the world a nicer place, not only for visitors to the Festival but also for thousands of people with mental disabilities who benefit from the organisation’s services every year. For people with intellectual or psychiatric disabilities, it’s all about being seen, being heard and being included rather than being overlooked, underestimated, and discriminated against. A kite flying high and free is the epitome of a healthy mind – it’s about the freedom to fly ‘up, up and away’ and to reach heights that previously seemed unachievable.
You can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it,
soar high above your challenges,
reach for your goals,
let go of stress, relax,
feel the wind beneath your wings,
set your mind free,
dream - the sky’s the limit!
Where can I stay? Rest your head & kite on the water's edge in Marina Da Gama or crash near the surf in Muizenberg.
Need to know? The Kite Festival will take place at Zandvlei, Muizenberg. Opening times will be 10am to 6pm.
