Description
Starting at the Edwardian-era Muizenberg Station, the “Historical Mile” is an easy stroll along the shore. Just across the main road is the Natale Labia mansion, an exquisite 1930's Italianate home overlooking Muizenberg Beach.
From there explore the Rhodes Cottage Museum where mining magnate Cecil John Rhodes lived and died in 1902 and view Het Posthuys, a rustic thatched Cape vernacular style building. Built in 1673 it’s arguably the oldest building in South Africa! Nearby is the Battle of Muizenberg site, where the British captured the Dutch colony in 1795 – a momentous event in the history of Cape Town and South Africa. (Call +27 21 788 5542 for more details). This brings one to St James, a much prettier suburb than Muizenberg with its own tiny beach, tidal pool and bright Victorian-style bathing houses.
