De Bakke (Mossel Bay) Suburb of Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay is so clean! - Before we decided to have a holiday in Mossel Bay, a friend commented that it was 'so clean'. Absolutely true. Even though the Buffalo Rally was on while we were there, everything was well controlled. And the day after some 3000 bikers had left, the campsite was spotless again. The city is so well-kept, it is a real example for us in Gauteng where litter is the order of the day. Santos Beach doesn't have waves so is great for 'exercise swimming'; however, Dias Beach, just up the road does have great waves. All in all a great holiday!

Rustigheid - Dit is een van die mooiste en skoonste strande wat daar is. Dit is lekker om net te stap en die natuurskoon te bewonder.

Exquisite - I am not a golfer (my husband is) so did not play but the course is beyond beautiful with the sea as your view. We would walk the course's path everyday to the clubhouse and back for exercise. We enjoyed great breakfasts and dinner at clubhouse. Shuttle service at estate is wonderfully convenient. Give them a call and they collect you from anywhere and drop you wherever you want to go within the Estate. The casino and spa in on your doorstep if that's your thing. Two beaches. Oyster beach is not for swimming. We took walks down to Eden beach and then all the way to the caves. We tried St Blaize trail but quickly turned back upon my son seeing a puffadder!

Pinnacle Point Beach & Golf Resort - When the golf course opened in 2006, the American publication Golf Travel & Leisure selected Pinnacle Point as one of the top ten new courses in the world and has since been rated among the top twenty courses in South Africa. Darren Clarke, 2011 Open Champion, described the course as “the best golf course on the planet”. This magnificent Estate offers intimate, secluded beaches along four kilometres of spectacular coastline, prolific indigenous wildlife, birdlife and a wide variety of fynbos.

Garden Route's Adventure Capital - Anyone looking for adventure should come to Mossel Bay. We can keep you busy for a few days. See some of the origins of modern man with a visit to the Pinnacle Point Caves. Also of recent historical interest are the relics of the first Europeans to land in South Africa. The museum has interesting info about the first trade with local inhabitants, the first church service, and the first letter posted in South Africa and more. Mossel Bay has one of the mildest climates in Africa.

Diaz Beach - I did have a chance to go to the beach because of the hectic schedule of the retreat I attended at Hartenbos. However, I know it from my previous visits, it is a great beach and next time I visit I would like to do the hiking trail.

Tessa Schoonbee Zeerust Noordwes Provinsie

Spectacular Dana Bay - Spectacular views, even had three whales coming in close to shore putting on a wonderful show for us. The B&B was great, very comfortable accommodation, lovely and warm which we needed with the freezing cold weather. Unfortunately, therefore, no beach!

Short stay in Mossel Bay - We spent a night in Mossel Bay on our way to a sports competition. We spent some time with Peter and Christine at the Outeniqua Moon Percheron Stud Farm. We were treated like old friends. Later in the afternoon we went to the Dias Museum complex where we saw amazing sea creatures and the lifesize replica of the Dias Caravel was a winner. We slept at Cross Court self catering accomodation. The little touchs like fresh milk in the fridge and bananas and OTees for the children just enforced the fact that we would definitely go back for a longer stay. The accomodation was very comfortable and yet very affordable too.

Mossel Bay’s motto is: “Explore Endless Horizons” - There are many reasons for this. When a town’s climate is rated “Best in the World next to that of Hawaii “ you know that you are in for a special treat! A town that entices you to return again and again! We have beautiful, clean, Blue Flag status beaches where you can spend days Swimming, Surfing, Rock fishing, Diving (Even White Shark Cage diving for the more adventurous), and many other activities. Or just laze in the sun building Sandcastles with the wonderful golden sand. Mossel Bay is also known for it’s good food with a variety of Restaurants to suit every taste, be it Fine dining or a casual fresh Seafood meal with your feet in the sand. This is truly a destination for the Adventurer, the Romantic and the whole Family! Mossel Bay also houses Shopping Malls with all the major shops as well as cozy Coffee shops and Arts, Crafts & Gift shops. Mossel Bay is a treasure trove of History. Five hundred years of European exploration is displayed in the Bartholomeu Dias Museum. This is also where the Post Office Tree, (a Milkwood tree)can be seen. The Maritime museum, housing a replica of Dias’s caravel and other treasures and the Shell Museum containing a large selection of local seashells are also within walking distance of the main complex. You can also enjoy nearby activities including Bungy jumping, Game drives, Elephant rides, Hiking, Bird watching, or visit our Wildlife Sanctuary, housing White lions and White tigers, Black leopard, Jaguar, Cheetah and Puma, all of the big Cats! If you are keen on Golf, this is where you can enjoy your sport on our Top golf courses with the best seaviews you could ever imagine. If you feel lucky, you can try your luck at the local Casino. Mossel Bay also hosts the world famous Buffalo Rally which provides lots of excitement. Then there are the views which are ‘to die for’! The waves of the Indian Ocean, where in season you can spot dolphins and watch Humpback or Southern Right whales passing. The Outeniqua Mountains looms in the background and provides for the best Sunsets ever. Not to mention walking on the beach in the moonlight!

2nd most temperate climate in the world! - Did you know that according to the Guiness Book of Records Mossel Bay has the 2nd most temperate climate in the world after Hawaii? This charming small town with it's special climate is ideally situated at the beginning of the Garden Route almost half way between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town making it an ideal stopover. There is plenty to do here, we have 2 Blue Flag beaches (one of which has small waves which makes it perfect for swimming and small children), good surfing, fishing, boat rides to seal island, whale watching (from July - November), shark-cage diving and scuba diving, walk the Oyster Catcher Trail along the coast from a Khoi San cave ending at the Gouritz River mouth, or take a helicopter flip over the town and bay (in season only). We have a lovely golf course where you can "see the sea from every tee", Bungee jumping, bridge swinging and abseiling are available half an hours drive, as well as elephant rides and game viewing 15 minutes away. Just over an hours drive from here there are the Cango Caves and Ostrich Farms in Oudtshoorn. Mossel Bay is also an historical town, we have an excellent Museum Complex where there is a life-size replica of the Dias Caravel boat plus the Cultural Museum, the Shell Museum, the aquarium, and the 500 year old Post Office Tree from where you can still post a letter today. Watch artists at work at the Crafts Art Workshop, or go on a "Meet the people" Tour. As if that wasn't enough we also have 3 shopping centres, one of the best private hospitals in the Western Cape, 2 gold medal butcheries, fresh fish daily and several good bars & restaurants.

Mossel Bay as holiday destination - Beautiful town, lovely beach destination, ideal as base to explore neighbouring towns and touristy places, and then come back to peaceful surrounds. Summertime will be busier than now, but MB also has a very temperate climate - winter and summer.
