Although this bustling tropical city appears jaded and a bit grimy, it doesn’t lack in charm. Feel the city's heartbeat in the Old Town and Fort Jesus, a national monument to Mombasa's complex, bloody history. An intricate network of narrow lanes, mosques and interesting old houses line the dhow harbour. Most tourists stay out of the city in the North or South beach hotels.
