Description
Pack ouma and lighties into the Volksiebus and head into the Swartland for Market Day. The Media24 Rachel’s Angels empowerment trust will host a festive Market Day for the entire family on the Wesbank Sports Grounds in Malmesbury on Saturday, 25 April 2009. Up for grabs are loads of lucky-draw prizes like cell phones, gift vouchers, braai sets, cool clothing and maybe even a pair of velskoene! And if you want to make it a day/night outing, you can attend the popular annual Rugby Derby which kicks off at 16:00. Entry is only R10 per person and all funds will be donated to local charities.
The Rachel’s Angels Trust is an initiative that works closely with the University of Stellenbosch to give High School learners from disadvantaged backgrounds the hope that they too can attend any University and have careers in any industry.
Students from Stellenbosch University act as Mentors for High School learners, giving them a taste of student life. In addition to this they also learn vital life and business skills. So far 16 schools in the Western Cape are part of this project in areas such as, Atlantis, Manenberg, Malmesbury, Paarl, Kraaifontein, Stellenbosch and Somerset West.
The aim of the market is for students and their mentors to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and what they have learnt from this program. The market day will be filled with lots of entertainment including Idol winner Jody Williams and funny man Wayne McKay will be the MC.
