Calling all urbanites needing a breath of fresh air and sunshine! Whether you're a single yuppie, have a young family or consider yourself a galloping granny or grandad, look no further for a great escape from the big bad city into the heart of the Cradle of Humankind. Grab a bunch of friends or the whole family and enjoy a weekend away in the quaint village of Magaliesburg where their mantra is “there are no strangers here, only friends we haven’t met.”
So, what's up at the Magaliesberg Country Classic Festival? Be amazed by the grace and nobility of the stunning South African Lipizzaners performing to the JHB Youth Orchestra. Chill out to live Classical music and Jazz performances. Stock up on fruits, cheeses and other fine fodder from the organic Green Kitchen Market. Nibble on posh nosh al fresco with a pre-ordered picnic basket from the 5 star De Hoek Country Hotel. Be soothed by the outdoor spa treatments on offer from Just Haven, Mount Grace and Mangwanani. Salivate at exhibitions and food by the finest venues in the Magaliesberg including Budmarsh, Sparkling Waters and Valley Lodge. Slake your thirst at the micro brewers beer tent, cocktail and beer garden or get your fix at a more tranquil coffee lounge. Be adventurous and take part in the home brewers beer tasting arena and competition. Sample some of the Cape's best wines with a special focus on organic wine from Waverly Hills, Avondale and other ‘Green’ wineries. Take the tribe on a genteel family cross country walk. Work off those winter love handles at the Bekker Bundu Bash mountain bike race. And small people are not forgotten - there's yoga for kids, camel rides, pony rides from Saddle Creek, face painting, archery and more.
Need to know? The festival takes place on the grounds of the Bekker schools from 9am to 5pm. Entrance fee for adults is R100 (excluding the computicket booking fee). Children under 10 enter for free. Tickets are available from computicket and specialty tickets will be available for some limited events at the festival. These include the Home Brewers Beer area and the Wine Tasting which are R150 each. This price includes entry to the festival. VIP tickets are available at R200 for access to all areas - www.computicket.co.za. Find out more at www.magfest.co.za
