Owned and operated by the Cumings family of Chiawa Camp repute, the concept of Old Mondoro is simple, to provide guests with an authentic, intimate safari that concentrates on the wildlife and bush experience while not forgoing any creature comforts or service. Old Mondoro offers some of the most prolific leopard sightings to be had in Africa, no one could want for more.

With only eight beds, Old Mondoro is the Lower Zambezi National Park's most intimate and private safari camp, exuding charm and charisma like nowhere else. Overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited islands from a grove of Acacia trees that tower above the massive elephant bulls that seem to be constantly feeding on them, this is perhaps the most beautiful site in the Lower Zambezi National Park and certainly one of the most remote. For those wanting a premier Lower Zambezi safari in a small camp with all comforts and a fabulous guiding team, inside the national park, look no further than Old Mondoro.

Appropriately constructed of canvas and natural materials, Old Mondoro has an open and adventurous feel, providing a perfect retreat after a day filled with excitement in the bush and yet where much of the action will happen right in front of you. At night canvas blinds are rolled down and secured although with the night chorus you are assured of never feeling too cosseted or cut off from the action. Each room also has a shaded timber sun deck complete with comfy daybed for relaxation with the very best of views.

The family-owned and operated Chiawa Camp in the incredible Lower Zambezi National Park is Zambia's premier luxury safari camp and offers unusually varied activities such as game drives, walking, canoeing, boating and angling in the company of Africa's finest guides. Indulge in attentive yet unpretentious, personalised service, fabulous cuisine and fantastic tents with spectacular views of the Zambezi and its resident wildlife. On the banks of the Zambezi River, under a grove of evergreen Mahogany trees, Chiawa Camp holds the prime position in the heart of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. A stunning thatched lounge and bar area with upstairs viewing deck provides one of the best views of the Zambezi whilst after enjoying Chiawa’s renowned cuisine on the alfresco dining veranda; one can relax by the open camp fire with a cocktail in hand to reminisce of the day's adventures before retiring to the tents, each a sanctuary of luxury and peace to dream about what tomorrow may bring.

The tents all have timber floors and verandas with excellent views and are accessed by paths running behind them to maximise privacy. All share ample comforts, conveniences and unexpected luxuries such as 24-hour lighting and charging facilities, hot and cold running water, king-size beds, Egyptian cotton linen, his-and-hers washbasins, indoor and outdoor showers and ball-and-claw baths complemented by Molton Brown amenities. These tents set a new standard for Zambia in bush-luxury; however they still retain the rustic and unpretentious feel that Chiawa is so well loved for. Tents VII, VIII and IX all overlook the ‘dry riverbed’ with quartering views of the Zambezi River whereas Tents I and VI face the Zambezi directly

Chiawa Camp is renowned for its excellent cuisine, oft described as an Afro/Euro fusion, in which even the most demanding palates are catered for. Chiawa’s imaginative executive chefs ensure meals are of the highest standard, that they are prepared with the freshest of ingredients and with the utmost of care.
