The new, state-of-the-art King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) is the third largest airport in South Africa.Built to process up to 7.5 million passengers a year, it replaced the old Durban International Airport (DIA), which was decommissioned on the 30 April 2010. The first flight took off without a hitch on 1 May 2010, just over a month before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The runway length of 3 700 metres will accommodate the latest New Generation Large Aircraft including the A380 Airbus. Ulundi Airport, also known as Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Airport, is conveniently situated near the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, the eMakhosini Ophathe Heritage Park, and many historic Zulu attractions. The Cengeni Gate of the iMfolozi section of the park, which offers excellent game viewing, is just a 36 km drive on the tarred P700 road. Federal Air operates two return flights a day between Ulundi and Pietermaritzburg, Monday to Friday.
