Where three worlds meet

Description

Komatipoort is perfectly located just 8 km from the Crocodile Bridge Gate in the Kruger National Park. Bordering Mozambique and just 65 km from the border of Swaziland, it is the perfect base to explore all these different worlds. Within a one hour’s drive you may experience lions and elephants, pristine Indian Ocean beaches, the history of Maputo and traditional dancing in the Kingdom of Swaziland! Elephant back safaris, micro light safaris, golf and fishing are just a few of the numerous exciting things to do.

They say there was a Revolution… well; this town has witnessed interesting events in recent history. It was a major railway town en route between Johannesburg and former Lorenco Marques (Maputo). The former President of Mozambique, Samora Machel died here in a tragic airplane crash in 1986 and the Komatipoort accord was signed here in 1984 in an attempt to neutralise the Apartheid government’s involvement in Mozambique and the revolutionary Mozambican government’s connection with the ANC. The monument to Samora Machel just outside the town is a stunning tribute to him.

Looking for the Wild Things? Komatipoort is one of the hottest towns in South Africa and has an absolutely perfect winter climate. Game viewing at this end of the Kruger Park is excellent all year round, but particularly in the winter months of June till October.

An oasis of peace and trees, the town is small, quiet and safe, with a few local restaurants and an abundance of excellent tourist accommodation from Backpackers lodges to 4 Star lodges and self catering facilities. The streets are generally very tidy and beautifully tree lined for coolness. Well worth a 3 to 4 day stay.
