Gear up for the New Year with the Big Blue Festival! The stunning seaside villages of Hangklip-Kleinmond play host to this annual event where people can play and compete on the beautiful beach next to the Kleinmond Lagoon.
Festivities kick off on Thursday 8 January 2009 with The Big Blue Festival and on Saturday 10 January 2009 the Totalsports Challenge promises excitement and entertainment for both the participants and their supporters. From small beginnings to great expectations to The Big Blue: Hangklip-Kleinmond Tourism Bureau's Blue Big Festival, originally conceived to support the Totalsports Challenge has become an entity in its own right and reason to celebrate as never before. Thanks to generous support, sponsorship and a deeply committed team, The Big Blue is now a major event and embraces the Hangklip-Kleinmond, the people, the way of life and a jolly time.
The Adrenaline & Outdoor Expo will feature exhibitors, including sports equipment, outdoor activities as well as local adventure operators. The Big Blue Festival incorporates the Hangklip Athletics Club Summer Series, offering 10km runs, night marathons, beach runs & 5km fun runs. Various sporting competitions feature on the Big Blue calendar, including Touch Rugby; Netball; Jukskei; Bowls; Boulé; Golf Chip & Putt and more.
The Big Blue Kids’ Club will be offering a jumping castle; mini Olympics; stilt walker; puppet shows; face painting and workshops; kite competitions; magicians and balloon modellers. A special kid’s area will make our little festival fans feel welcome, while older children can also participate in the special paddling race & mini adventure races being organised on the lagoon.
Non-stop live entertainment will feature traditional, local, and national singers, dancers and performers on the stage. The entertainment tent will feature comfortable shaded seating and a bar area. Foodies can indulge in the Food Carnival and enjoy their meal whilst being entertained. The festival ends with a gospel song & praise event on Sunday for all to enjoy. So, head out to the Hangklip-Kleinmond for three days of great fun in the sun – see you there!
