Kleinbaai Travel Guide

A real countryside coastal village with lots of activity! - Best cheerful outing is hiking, swimming and beach walking, for free! Two nearby coastal nature reserves allow for peaceful hiking along sandy beaches! When the weather’s good, I like to be outside and enjoy the kilometers of unspoilt coastline When the weather’s bad, I like to watch the stormy sea from a sea-view room of a guest house. Several boat companies leave Kleinbaai harbour for shark-cage diving and whale watching.

Kleinbaai - Shark Capitol of the World - Kleinbaai is a picturesque sea-side village nestled amongst milkwood trees and fragrant fynbos. Kleinbaai is world wide known for Great White shark cage diving trips. It is from the natural harbour of Kleinbaai that Great White shark cage diving boats are launched with protective cages that allow tourists to get 'up close and personal' with the Great Whites that frequent our waters in vast numbers right through the year. The boats head for Shark Alley - the area between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock. Approximately 70 000 seals inhabit Geyser Rock - the natural food for the Great White sharks. Dyer Island is home to penguins and various sea bird species. From June to December is our whale season and the Southern Right whales come to our coast to calve and mate. Calving takes place in August and September and the males arrive for mating in October when the whale population peaks. Our rocky coast line provide great land based whale viewing spots while the whale boat is allowed within 50 meters of the whales and it is not unusual to find yourself wet from the spray of their blow holes. Kleinbaai is one of the best whale watching sites in the world and it is a thrilling site to see them breaching, spyhopping or lobtailing. Kleinbaai is one nature's havens.
