When we spotted the first Kori Bustard my daughter yelled out "giant Bird!" but we couldn't quite believe it when we saw over 20 in one day. A lovely sight was finding two very engorged, sleepy hyaena just off the road. We saw Gemsbok, Eland, Springbok, Kudu, Giaffe and Wildebeest plus lots of birds but sadly no lions.
What a wild, beautiful, peaceful place!

Everything I could ever wish for is in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. It’s epic, wild, hauntingly beautiful, fascinating and inspiring. Driving on the corrugated dirt roads is not comfortable, but the expansive views and pristine wilderness are captivating. I’ve never seen so many birds of prey soaring in the sky – vultures, eagles, owls, hawks and gorgeous pygmy falcons. Lions can pop up and surprise or amuse you – we watched a posh 4x4 beat a hasty retreat after two ‘kittens’ on the prowl playfully swiped at the rear tyres.
