The Chobe National Park in Botswana is home to the largest elephant population in the world. This magnificent reserve draws life from the Chobe River and is surrounded by protected wildlife sanctuaries. As the region is barrier free, this allows for large numbers of big game to move freely through these protected reserves. Straddling the game rich area between Chobe and Zimbabwe’s Matetsi reserve lies the Kasane Forest Reserve. It is here in the Lesoma Valley that one will find Elephant Valley Lodge, uniquely positioned thus offering spectacular game viewing long after guests have left the national park.

The lodge has a very active waterhole frequented by numerous species, including elephant, lion, buffalo, and leopard. These sightings present superb photographic opportunities from the comfort and safety of the viewing hide or the lodge’s main deck areas. Sturdy acacias reach high above the camp, forming large canopies of shade, under which you will find twenty ‘meru’ styled luxury safari tents. Each of the spacious tents feature twin beds, mini-safe and en-suite facilities which include an indoor shower and toilet. Your safari experience includes a morning boat cruise on the Chobe River where guests are provided with a magnificent opportunity to view the various species that frequent the Chobe River. Guests then return back to the lodge, where they can while away their time around the pool area or relax in the lounge, recording their morning sightings on a postcard.

The afternoon safari takes guests into the Chobe National Park where your qualified guide will interpret the sights and sounds of this wildlife sanctuary. Guests return to the lodge through the Kasane Forest Reserve, providing guests with further opportunity to experience a game drive after dark. Access to the lodge is possible through either Kasane, Victoria Falls, or Livingstone International airport. It is from Livingstone airport where guests can elect to enjoy a one hour vehicle transfer before meeting their guide at the Botswana border. Alternatively one can connect to Kasane on an “Angels and Elephants” air transfer, routing over the magnificent Victoria Falls before descending down to where the Chobe and Zambezi River confluence, then skim along the Chobe River, landing at Kasane Airport where your guide will assist you in clearing through customs.

The Flight of the Angels and Elephants is the ultimate transfer and sightseeing experience not to be missed. This is the ideal way for couples, families and even small groups to have the opportunity of viewing the Falls and the Chobe River from the air, including Sedudu Island with its numerous game populations. On arrival at either Victoria Falls Airport or Livingstone Airport, you are met at the arrivals hall by your pilot who will then escort you through customs swiftly and efficiently. From here you will board a light aircraft and take off at either airport and enjoy two turns over the impressive Falls, a perfect photographic opportunity and chance to view the falls from above before heading out towards Kasane Airport – adjacent to the Chobe National Park. As you approach the Chobe River, your pilot will descend to a comfortable game viewing height and will fly a circuit over the Chobe River and Sedudu Island where there is every opportunity to view big game from the air. Once you have landed at Kasane Airport, your pilot will once again escort you through customs and it is here you will be met by your Elephant Valley Lodge guide. The transfer from the airport to the lodge is conducted in open air game viewers through the Kasane Forest, a natural extension of the Chobe National Park and takes approximately 25 minutes.

Chobe Bakwena Lodge is located in the Chobe, Botswana. The lodge is surrounded by the Chobe National Park and forest reserve, some 90 km from Victoria Falls and Livingstone. Bakwena, from Setswana meaning people of the crocodile, is one of the largest tribes in Botswana. A tribe that embraces the surrounding culture and country as inspiration for its style and hospitality.

Bakwena Lodge comprises nine rondavel-style chalets. All situated under the shady canopy of Acacia trees. Each site has been selected for its river view and is surrounded by indigenous riverine bush. Built around both ecological and traditional African principles, each chalet offers laid-back luxury with its own raised deck overlooking the river. Shower under an African night sky surrounded by the sounds of the bush is a must-do experience that cleanses and energizes both body and soul. Built-in daybeds offer ample opportunity to absorb the changing moods of the Chobe.

Once you’ve unwound and settled in you may join us in the main entertainment area with its lounge, restaurant and Rain Tree bar overlooking the river, or to cool off in our inviting swimming pool.

The personal touch of owner-manager’s, Adam and Jen, can be felt from the hand selected furniture to the food conceptualised by the owners and chefs. Expect simple African-fusion dishes prepared from locally sourced ingredients and inspired by traditional Setswana cuisine.

Chobe Safari Lodge is situated in Kasane on the banks of the Chobe River, and shares a border with Chobe National Park. Right on our doorstep is the meeting of four African countries; Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Chobe Safari Lodge therefore offers an excellent getaway location to Chobe, Victoria Falls or Caprivi. Our close proximity to Victoria Falls International Airport, Livingstone International Airport and Kasane International Airport makes us easily accessible, with daily road transfers or charter flights connecting all these airports with Chobe Safari Lodge.

The lodge has been recently renovated, matching a magical lodge experience to the spectacular game viewing. On Botswana’s far northern border lies the Kwando, Linyanti and Chobe River systems that form a mosaic of lakes, islands, channels and floodplains. Part of this system is the Chobe National Park, renowned for its vast herds of elephant and buffalo. The Sedudu Bar overlooks the river and floodplains, and is well-known as the sundowner spot in the region.

Game drives within the Chobe National Park offer the opportunity to view the abundant elephant and other big game species up close, as well as the possibility of an encounter with one of the large predators. Game drives depart three times a day, alternatively there is an option of booking a full or half-day drive with a picnic lunch. Chobe River cruises have to be one of the finest game-viewing experiences in Africa, and with over 80,000 elephant in the park alone, they are a very frequent sighting. Hippo, water birds, buffalo, crocodile and puku are also viewed from the river. Private cruises, led by our expert guides are available throughout the day to suit your individual needs. Fishing for the legendary tiger fish and several species of bream provides an exciting fishing experience. Equipment is provided, and a knowledgeable guide is on hand for all expeditions.

    Kasane Botswana

    Kasane Safari Accommodation
Kasane is a small bustling town in the north of Botswana. It overlooks the Chobe river, and is quite close to its mergence with the Zambezi River. Kasane provides easy access to three of Botswana's Namibian, Zambian and Zimbabwean borders. It has an international airport just 4 km outside of town, making it the perfect place to begin a safari.

Visitors to Kasane are often treated to seeing wildlife such as elephant and hippopotami literally wandering down the road and through the Kasane campsites. This is due to the fact that there are no boundary fences between the park and the actual village.

Kasane is a very popular fishing safari destination with a wide variety of fish species to be found including Tigerfish and Bream. Sedudu Island on the Chobe River is a favoured spot for birdwatching as well as a grazing ground for elephant, hippo and buffalo.

A short drive out of Kasane takes you to a bend in the Chobe River near the Kasane Rapids. There are a number of picnic sites in the area, with an abundance of birdlife close to the rapids. Look out for unusual species such as the African Finfoot and the Halfcollared Kingfisher.

Sundowner river cruises are incredibly beautiful for game viewing and wonderful photographic opportunities, particularly of the herds of elephant and buffalo.

Visit the old hollow baobab tree whose local claim to fame is that in the early 20th century the hollowed out centre of the tree trunk served as the local prison.

Kasane is also home to the vibrant and inviting Kasane Hot Springs, a lovely natural mineral spa. The hot springs are a well known attraction, with people able to enjoy fishing and birdwatching while surrounded by the most amazing scenery.
