Unique accommodation experienced in an enchanting tower at a vibrant arts centre in the Karoo village of Nieu Bethesda. The Bethesda Arts Centre Tower is located two minutes' walk from the fascinating Owl House, surrounded by stunning mountains, under an amazing array of stars. See the artists at work making huge colourful wall hangings and lino-prints, or catch a performance at the outdoor theatre while enjoying a Karoo-style meal at our great restaurant.

The Tower is a fairytale building three stories high.  On the top floor is a huge round bed, covered with a 'love quilt' made at the project.  The middle room has twin beds, so Bethesda Tower is ideal for a couple wanting a romantic night, or an adventurous family wanting a completely unique experience.  There are wonderful views of the surrounding hills from the Tower balcony, and at night you can sit and sip your wine under the stars in the round stone courtyard, in privacy and complete safety.

Delicious meals are served in the Arts Centre's restaurant-gallery, where you can browse the exquisite bags, cushion covers, wall hangings, and prints made at the centre, or chat to the artists while you wait for a fine meal prepared from local produce in the Tower kitchen.

The Priory is named after the Priory in England where its stunning 1820 stained-glass windows came from. It sleeps a maximum of seven people, with the beds covered in quilts and the walls covered with artwork both made at the centre.  A beautiful stone courtyard with its own barbecue area offers privacy in a charming outdoor setting. Here you can gaze at the famous Bethesda night sky while you sip your wine.

Nights spent in the centre's friendly and quirky accommodation will not only give you the chance to meet the local artists, but to know that you are supporting a worthwhile project that is changing people's lives.

A circular double-storey with an interesting past, The Water Tower sits in a pleasant garden in the heart of Nieu Bethesda. This quirky building was first a water tower and then a Buddhist meditation room. With whitewashed walls and wooden floors, it is a calm and clean space from which to enjoy the famous Karoo sky, day or night.

The Water Tower sleeps two guests on a queen-size bed in the room upstairs adjoining the sun/star deck. The kitchenette is below with the private shower and composting toilet attached. Do some stargazing on the deck before creeping under your crisp cotton sheets, lamb’s wool duvets and mohair blanket. Pets are welcome by arrangement.

Life in Nieu Bethesda potters along much as it did 130 years ago, when the village was founded. Stone water furrows still line the wide, dusty streets. Night skycaps are unpolluted by streetlights and the air is still fresh and clean.

Nieu Bethesda has a working network of furrows, with water supplied daily from a spring on the plateau above the village. Residents channel water into their gardens using smaller gated funnels. Visitors can hike along the furrows up to the spring. Horse riding is offered at several places in the village as well.

The area around Nieu Bethesda is good for either a leisurely ride or a challenging ride for serious mountain bikers. If you’re feeling lazy, hire a bike from the Outsiders B&B and cruise around the village. Alternatively, wake up early to conquer one of the two mountain bike trails in the area.

Step back in time and experience the luxury of the colonial lifestyle in our early nineteenth-century house in Bedford. Bedford village is picturesque and full of interesting and attractive buildings as well as people. It is located in the heart of the Scottish Settler’s country and is part of the well-known Frontier Country tourism route in the Eastern Cape. The town nestles at the foot of the Winterberg Mountains. It has beautiful tree-lined streets with abundant water from the majestic mountain and is a gardener’s paradise.

Kaga Mountain overlooks the village and creates a micro-climate that is responsible for the incredible rain forest on its slopes and the highly sought-after grass veld on the surrounding farms. The village was initially a stopover support center for migrating farmers and developed into a supply center. We invite you to come and explore the hinterland.

Our guest house is beautifully furnished in the colonial style to complement the house and is typical of the area. The house offers accommodation in four spacious bedrooms with percale cotton linen. Two bedrooms are en-suite while the other two share a private bathroom. There is a formal lounge-dining room with a fireplace and a TV room. You can enjoy dining on the stoep or in the tree-filled garden. We offer secure off-street parking.

Food is a passion here and the dinners are legendary; the highlight of your stay and an experience to be savoured and remembered. Food is the very being, the soul, of this guest house and Gordon's enthusiasm for good, honest food is legendary. Finding and turning the best local and regional products into a fine art is what sets his cuisine apart, and has cognoscenti proclaiming it among South Africa's finest.

The guest house and Gordon's restaurant is located in a manor house built circa 1819, and offers seven en-suite double rooms, all elegantly furnished. All rooms have 100-percent percale linen and mohair blankets from the region.

This old Karoo home, circa 1856, has been created into a small 'boutique-type' accommodation. It is centrally situated in Graaff-Reinet, the Gem of the Karoo.

Our guest house, named Aa'Qtansisi, is derived from the authentic, original Khoisan language meaning 'we welcome you'. Dating back 350 000 years ago, the Khoisan were the first human inhabitants in Graaff-Reinet, and it has been speculated that Graaff-Reinet may well be the origin of mankind.

Be prepared to be spoiled and delighted with personal attention and unique creations of décor. We are sure that Aa'Qtansisi will become your first choice of accommodation whenever you pass through Graaff-Reinet.
