Bro’ and sista, you gotta pull into this! So, what's up in Slaapstad? A nine-day feast of epic new flicks at the Wavescapes Surf Film Festival 2008.
"We exhibit wave riding in its many forms, from artistic eulogies to gritty documentaries about surfing in the Vietnam War; from big wave tow-ins at scary spot Aileens in Ireland to classic longboarding in two-foot Robertsport in Liberia; from the latest Shaun Tomson movie about the Free Ride generation to a documentary about the Zulu surf riders of Umzumbe. Through the films Sharkwater and Shark Angels, Wavescapes affirms its stand against the slaughter of sharks and a commitment to reveal the shark’s pivotal role in the future survival of not just the ocean, but possibly even the planet."
Kicking off at the Brass Bell at 9pm on the 7th of December is One Track Mind and Mundaka. On the 8th is Beneath the Surface and Out There on 9th. Don’t miss Waterman on the 10th! "If I'm dreaming, don't wake me up"… Check out surfing’s evolution as big, bronzed Laird, Dave Kalama, Gerry Lopez, Rob Machado and Chris, Keith & Dan Malloy travel into heart of Indonesia on the ultimate boat trip.
