The main street is lined with lots of quirky little shops. Great place to just walk around, window shop, people watch and get a good bite to eat. The seared tuna at Olympia is beyond words. I also had some uber decadent chocolate dessert at The Annex - I was on a chocolate high for a week.

Everything in Kalk Bay is within safe walking distance and this is a great way to soak up the charm of the village. Kalk Bay offers a variety of quaint stores far removed from the impersonal malls of the city and Kalk Bay Books is one of the finest bookshops you will find anywhere in the country. The choice of exceptional Restarants is big. Daily fresh fish make the menus large and variable. Have a candle light dinner at Harbour House, sea food pasta with the locals at Cafe Olympia or fish and chips at Kalky's. If you feel like a drink, have a nice cocktail at Cape to Cuba or enjoy live music every weekend at Polana (winter specials for R60.00, unbelievable value for money. By far the best bar in Cape Town). Every year between July and November, many southern right whales can be spotted almost daily. For surfers the famous Muizenberg beach has the perfect waves and Kalk Bays three tidal pools are a great spot to swim. A bit of culture can be experienced at the Kalk Bay Modern or the charming theater which is located in an ancient church. Kalk Bay has several very nice accommodation establishments with great sea view rooms and delicious breakfasts.

Little Toy Town, Coming to Kalk Bay feels like a magic trip as you come round the bend and see Kalk Bays green blue water around the harbor. The boats bobbing on the water in anticipation for fishing and the train heading off to Simons Town reminds me of my little brothers toys, just life size. The air is filled with excitement as people are watching the catch of the day with ice cream or candy floss in-hand. The Streets are teaming with young kids and 'old kids' alike hoping from shops, restaurant to bars. My fav being Cafe Olympia for a half portion sea food linguine, drinks at brass bell (view) cocktails at Cape to cuba (atmosphere) and dancing away at Polana ( fitting in diner at Harbor House if you get hungry) For those with a more cultured soul, I absolutely love the theater so small and intimate. Only 1 min away from Castle Hill Guesthouse which has a beautiful Veranda to sit and watch the night sky turn sparkly with a glass of wine. Breakfast at Chartfield is a real bargain with all you can eat for R80.- p/p. A brisk walk up the Silvermine trails and a cool off at Danger Beach or a surf sets the tone for the next day of the rest of your life. You will love it, hopefully not as much as me... as I decided to move here :) Enjoy

We decided to try Kalk Bay as a place to stay for a quick Cape Town holiday and we were so glad that we did! It is so close to so many great Cape Town attractions - Boulders, Simon's Town, Cape Point, Chapman's Peak, the Constantia Winelands, Muizenburg beach, not to mention all the quaint shops, restaurants and fabulous bakeries in close proximity. We did things on our holiday that we had not done in all the years that we lived in Cape Town previously because staying in Kalk Bay made them easily accessible.

A great place to potter around. The harbour is fantastic and you can buy fresh fish on a daily basis. There are many quirky shops and restaurants to explore.

The bohemian seaside town of Kalk Bay is centered around a colourful harbour and despite its modern development, it has maintained an authentic Cape vibe. Art galleries, cocktail bars and quirky shops litter the streets of Kalk Bay. Not one of the places has that pretentious trying-to-be-cool feel to it. Kalk Bay is real. Nothing plastic about it! The village is an interesting mix of traditional flavour and the more arty modern café vibe. Where else can you order a chocolate martini and watch toothless fisherman gutting the catch of the day? I love the heart and soul of Kalk Bay - to me it's Cape Town. Arty, vibey, traditional, modern, intellectual, laid back and views of barelling waves from restaurants. Kalk Bay has attitude and I hope it doesn't sell its soul to tourism.

Stroll along Kalk Bay’s sidewalk and visit their amazing antique stores where you can find beautiful furniture and other knick-knacks. There are many other interesting shops, such as Big Blue that sells clothes and innovative household utensils. Visit the renowned bakery coffee shop for a sweet treat or pop into one of the restaurants for a meal with a view of the bay.

Interesting and diverse in sights and sounds with a wide selection of little shops. Excellent for finding delicious fish and chips.
