What’s hip, hot and happening in Jozi?
LOVE, NOT HATE! The 19th Johannesburg Pride where black, white and pink will be on the prowl. Yeeha! The gay and lesbian pride is becoming ever so popular. South Africa needs to emerge into tolerance and love, love, love. In light of the continued threat to the lives of lesbian and gay South Africans, the theme LOVE, NOT HATE was chosen to highlight the ongoing hate crimes crisis.

The 2008 JOBURG PRIDE WEEK celebrations officially kick off on Monday 29 September, and the Pride Parade will take place on Saturday, 04 October 2008. The Pride March and party on the final Saturday 04 October 2008 are preceded by a week-long extravaganza of cultural and club events, theatre and art exhibitions. The march starts and ends at the Zoo Lake Sports Club - the perfect forum for Pride revellers to party away into the small hours.

First held in 1990, and both the original and largest South African Gay and Lesbian Pride celebration, Johannesburg Pride provides a week of activities (Pride Heritage Week) leading up to the final Saturday's Pride March. The parade and party attract over 35,000 people - pretty good going considering that prior to Nelson Mandela's presidency, homosexuality was a crime. The country's immediate liberalisation of the sex laws arguably reflected Mandela himself, who while in hiding employed a gay driver.
