Renowned as one of Rajasthan’s top tourist destinations, the Golden City of Jaisalmer rises dreamlike from the surrounding sands of the Thar Desert. Its most conspicuous feature is the massive 12th century Jaisalmer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site containing palaces, temples, elaborate mansions and a network of winding streetscapes that has been inhabited by families for generations. It's easy to spend a few days here and most visitors adventure into the desert on a camel safari.
