Description
Grab your biggest basket and head to one of the Mother City's favourite markets
Browse, purchase, picnic and relax in the sun surrounded by magnificent mountains and indigenous shade trees. The setting for the Hout Bay Craft Market is magical and the crafters are happy-go-lucky folk who exude the peaceful, country vibe that is Hout Bay.
The variety of crafts is mind boggling – clothing, knitwear, leather work, iron and steel work, African curious, wire work, basketry, handmade soaps, woodwork, ceramics, needlework, glass work, mirrors, jewellery, paintings, puppets, candle-wicking, braunmalerie, shell ware, hammocks, plants, children’s toys plus much more. DARG (Domestic Animal Rescue Group) often bring dogs of all shapes and sizes to market to find ‘new parents’ for them.
A jumping castle and pony rides keep the youngsters busy. Wandering minstrels and buskers entertain visitors and a face painter brightens up the children’s faces. The kilo bookstall, second hand book stall, collectables and antiques are also popular.
Numerous food stalls offer a tempting array of Malay specialities, homemade soups in winter, smoothies in summer, hamburgers, toasted sandwiches, hotdogs, pancakes, vegetarian, falafels, spring rolls, cakes, doughnuts and ice cream – the list goes on.
Open every Sunday 09:00 – 16:00 at the Village Common, Main Road, Hout Bay.
