A fantastic holiday destination with very good shopping facilities and restaurants. Good sporting facilities including golf. You can sense the holiday atmosphere. It does however get very crowded during peak holiday periods.

My husband and I spent an unforgettable 3 days celebrating our 22 wedding anniversary in Hermanus. This is the third time we've spent an anniversary there. So you can guess why we love Hermanus so much! We stayed at the Bamboo House bed and breakfast and dined two nights at La Pentola restaurant. The food is amazing and their service outstanding. This time of the year, being September, the whales and dolphins were all over the bay. The walks along the cliff paths is one to experience, along with the view of the mountains. It's absolutely breathtaking! I have family arriving March 2013 from the States and would definitely take them there!!

we had an unforgettable two nights in Hermanus
experiencing the magnificent views and fun night life, the invigourating walks along the cliff paths... chasing the setting sun to get the perfect picture, and the waves breaking on the rocks below and showering us with a cloud of water, drenching us all from head to toe... what a blast ! our two adult daughters shared these times with us,will definitely go back for another visit soon, hopefully when the whales are in town !! two nights was not long enough. sandy pollastrini

We spent just 2 days and one night in Hermanus, just after doing the 2012 Cape Argus Cycle ride and found Hermanus to be absolutely amazing. The seaviews and the beach were absolutely stunning and we cannot wait to be able to spend time there again for a longer period to be able to explore all that is on offer. We absolutely loved it, the central area is all within walking distance and there is a 'safe' feeling there.

Hermanus, the place with vibe and view, friendly people and fabulous whale whatching. Fantastic food and festive feasts of wine and dine.
We stayed at Whale Rock estate with a breathtaking view of the wild ocean. We dined at Burgandy's and the Harbour Rock, and enjoyed lovely fish and beautiful deserts.
We would be back to enjoy all the wonderful elements of this creative and artistic town, we will visit again to experience the beauty where the mountain and the sea meet.

Your review...We just had our family holiday in Hermanus and had a awesome week there. We stayed at the Esplanade self catering cottages who offered a great winter rate up till 31July.
The Espanade is not fancy but has everything you need and so it feel like your own little beach house.... with awesome seaviews. We were braaing on our balcony while watching the whales jumping and the weather was great!

Hermanus has a long history of being a fishing town. Today there are many wonderful restaurants, beaches, walks and shopping centres. Hermanus however still remains a quaint and sleepy town where one can relax and enjoy the champagne air! Walker Bay is a protected bay and to the delight of everyone, whales are abundant in this bay from about August through January each year. It is the most exciting sight to see them frolicking and fluking in the waters. Wine tasting, restaurants and about anything you want to do to relax is offered in this quaint spot in the Western Cape.

I grew up in Hermanus and even though much development has happened since then, the town and suburbs and beachers still have such a lovely small-town feel.
The shops are interesting and not just the usual franchised global shops, but there are quite a few unusual hand-made and designed items. The beaches are so varied, from long surfing and walking beaches, to craggy rocks, cliff paths, little hideaway spots, pools, dunes and lagoons.
If you are a walker, runner, kayaker, mountain climber, restaurant-lover, fisherman, surfer, wine-lover, art-junkie, walker, hiker, swimmer, shopper, reader, whale watcher - Hermanus has something for you. Wild winter stormy days with frothy seas to calm autumn evenings with a still mirrored Walker Bay - all these have appeal, all through the year.

My husband and I had not been to Hermanus for a number of years so we enjoyed taking our overseas guests there. We were not fortunate enough to see any whales but we enjoyed browsing around the town, visiting the Marine Hotel for sundowners and dining at some of the local restaurants. We spent a pleasant day exploring the Hemel en Aarde Valley and lunched at Mogg's Country House. Another day we drove to Cape Agulhas and stopped in Napier and Stanford on the way back to Hermanus.
On our last day we went to Greyton. Hermanus was the ideal base for us from which to explore these towns.

This is a beautiful town on the coast; ideal for whale watching from October to November. The coastal walks are to die for. There are independent shops selling quality wares and superb, reasonably priced restaurants. I loved it.

A really relaxing town with stunning views and miles of rocky beaches to explore. And if you're lucky, certain times of the year you can watch the southern right whales in the bay.
