Heldervue Travel Guide

Paradise between Mountains and Sea! - Amanda my wife and I had the opportunity to stay in Heldervue during December 2011. Heldervue is situated next to Somerset West and close to major routes like the N2 and R44 From 22 on Jasmine we had a clear view from Gordensbay on your left as far as Cape Point on your right. As far as the eye can see, you are met with beeches, mountains and sea. We had awesome sunny weather during our stay in December 2011. Taking the R44 we were close to some of the most popular wine-routes that Stellenbosch offers. We also visited on of the best kept secrets the Wine Farm Waterkloof situated on the old Sir Lowreys road. An absolute must visit when staying in Heldervue or travelling past Heldervue and Somerset West. We shopped at a convenient shopping centre called Waterstone and visited some great restaurants in the area. We can recommend Heldervue to any traveller, International or Local. It is home from home with spectacular views, friendly people and lots to do.

Heldervue (Somerset West, Western Cape) - Heldervue: “Helder”: Afrikaans word for “clear”. “Vue”: French word for “view”. Here in the Heldervue village of Somerset West - on the gentle mountain slopes of the Helderberg - you have a CLEAR VIEW in all directions, thereby locating oneself at an exceptional junction of the Boland Region in the Western Cape. To the NORTH: The prominent Helderberg (mostly sunny, but ‘predicting’ rain when clouded) with its beautiful Nature Reserve. The popular R44 wine-route leading all the way to Stellenbosch, Paarl and Wellington. To the EAST: The majestic Hottentots-Holland mountain range enclosing Vergelegen, distinguished example of Cape Dutch heritage and modern winemaking. The winding Sir Lowrey’s Pass which carries the N2 thoroughfare towards the national food baskets of the Elgin and Overberg regions. To the SOUTH: The scenic coastal route via Gordons Bay to Rooi Els and Hangklip, also for whale-watching. The stretched white beaches of the Strand and the distant horizons of False Bay. To the WEST: The populated Cape Flats with clear outlines of Table Mountain in the back. The N2 providing a fast link for arrivals and departures at Cape Town International Airport. Although Heldervue symbolise a unique “3D-experience” of the geographical transition from the Cape Peninsula to the Boland, from the Sea to the Mountain, and from Fynbos to Vineyard, it remains predominantly a residential neighbourhood. There are two convenient shopping centres (Heldervue & Waterstone) catering for basic needs (doctors, physiotherapists & restaurants included) with the all-inclusive Somerset Mall just “across the road” (N2). The landmark hotel, Lord Charles, plays host to travellers and conference goers. Therefore, staying in Heldervue is a “passe-porte” to relish in the beauty of nature whilst enjoying the benefit of proximity to lifestyle facilities and business enterprises. From the above perspective it is as “clear” as “helder”: in HELDERVUE you are never far from anything and will find it pretty easy to synchronise the triple desires of Home, Work and Play.
