Groenkloof Nature Reserve offers an amazing getaway for nature junkies, outdoorsy families and jaded urbanites. Along with teeming wildlife, there’s a wide choice of mountain biking trails, horse riding, 4x4 routes and hiking trails. And situated 5 km south of Pretoria, it’s just a hop and a skip away.
Popular mountain biking events are held regularly, offering trails of varying degrees of difficulty. A great way to experience the reserve is footloose on the overnight hiking trail or to ride on the wild side on a guided horse-riding trek.
Groenkloof is home to healthy populations of zebra, kudu, blue wildebeest, ostrich, giraffe, red hartebeest, blesbok, duiker, impala and sable. Keen birders will appreciate the abundant birdlife. And if all the activity and fresh air whips up your appetite, set yourself down at one of the picnic spots or head straight to the famous Moyo restaurant.
