Description

"Elastic’s fantastic ….. but SciFest Africa stretches your mind!"

Calling all little Einstein's, Newton's, Galileo's and Da Vinci's! The first of its kind in southern Africa, SciFest Africa (formerly Sasol Scifest) is a must do for kids and  all inquisitive minds. South Africa's national science festival is held annually in late March or early April in Grahamstown. SciFest Africa features over 550 events including popular lectures, interactive exhibitions, workshops, educational theatre, field trips, a soap box derby, laser show, high school quizzes, Science Olympics, science shows, tours and even a FilmFest. Attendance now exceeds 58 000 visitors.

What? SciFest Africa, the biggest science festival in sub-Saharan Africa, is a fun- filled event specially styled to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics accessible to and of interest to every-day people. It is not a gathering just for scientists – it is for anyone with an inquiring mind and wanting to know more about the fascinating world of science …including scientists!
Each year SciFest Africa offers over 550 events and activities, including exhibitions, lectures, hands-on workshops, excursions, laser-shows, quizzes, whiz-bang science shows and a filmfest, with something of interest for all from the age of 5 to 105 years! The cost of attending SciFest Africa could not be cheaper. Entrance to the stimulating, inter-active exhibits (50-plus every year) is totally free, and for any of the many lectures, workshops and other exciting events the going price is as little as R8,00.

Where? In Grahamstown - the Festival Capital of South Africa.

When? 25-31 March 2009.

Why? Because SciFest Africa shows that science, technology, engineering and mathematics are not the boring, and possibly the ‘not-for-me’, subjects you might see them as. At SciFest Africa you will see them for what they really are – exciting, stimulating and total fun!

How? Just come along! But, if you don’t want to miss out on the best shows you are advised to book early. All you need to know is provided on www.scifest.org.za
