Holden Manz Guest House is situated on the Holden Manz Wine Estate and offers a mix of natural beauty, hospitality, great food, and good wine. The Holden Manz Wine Estate, owned by Gerard Holden and Migo Manz, is located at the top of the Franschhoek Valley dominated by the spectacular mountains which stand guard over the beauty below.

Situated between the Franschoek and Stony Brook Rivers, this 22-hectare wine estate benefits from wonderfully fertile and dark loam soils and a state-of-the-art wine-making cellar. The Holden Manz Wine Estate is in the unique and privileged position in Franschhoek to offer vineyardsa and winery, a restaurant with its enchanting picnic areas along the river, and a 5 Star guest house with its very own health and wellness spa.

Our own on-site vineyard restaurant, aptly named the Franschhoek Kitchen, is run by head chef Bjorn Dingemans, who loves nothing more than finding the best local fresh produce and using the vegetables and fruits from our very own gardens in order to create clean combinations of tasty food. Our standards are based on the best international cuisine, but our heart lies in the simplicity and purity of each and every ingredient. We prefer to see our guests enjoy a home-made dish, inspired by the country we live in and the farm we work on.

Holden Manz Wine Estate is also perfectly suited for events such as family parties and company outings. Our team is happy to cater for any event, or we can simply turn your big birthday or wedding into the unforgettable event of the season. Our creative team are eager to suggest and plan the most outstanding events for you, and our locations on the farm are numerous and varied.

Holden Manz Guest House at the manor house has been built in the Cape Dutch-style but is only just over 10 years old. Luckily for our guests, this means that the spaces you would normally find in a Cape Dutch building are vastly more comfortable and grand in layout on our estate. The mute variations of different grey tones on the wall surfaces allow the changing light of the seasons to play joyfully with the warm interior finishes, while extra-large bed pillows invite you to dive into a calm sleep after a day filled with new experiences in the Cape Winelands. A modern art collection can be found throughout the buildings and every suite features contemporary African art on show.

    Franschhoek South Africa

    Franschhoek Country House Accommodation

This sybaritic little town is situated smack in the middle of some gorgeous scenery in the heart of the Winelands. It’s one of those places that became fashionable some time around the 1980s and things just snowballed. Fabulous restaurants line the main street, there are some lovely little guest houses and – of course – great wineries.

In fact, Franschhoek has a special place in the history of South African wine making. The name, which means French Corner, came about in the 17th Century when a whole bunch of French Huguenots, who were fleeing persecution by the Catholic Church in France, settled here. They weren’t the first to grow and produce wine in the Cape but they certainly contributed a certain flair that the Dutch didn’t really possess.

Notwithstanding their Gallic skill with an oaken vat, these immigrants became totally integrated into the colonial scene and soon started speaking Dutch – and then Afrikaans. So much so, in fact, that many South Africans consider surnames such as du Toit, Labuschagne and Marais to be Afrikaans. But, even though no French is spoken here, there are strong links to France. A pretty monument to the Huguenots dominates the town and – in July – Franschhoek celebrates Bastille Day with a flourish unmatched except, perhaps, in Paris.

There is an excellent paragliding launch site in the mountains on the outskirts of the town, and the nearby pine plantations offer some great mountain biking.
