Etosha National Park Travel Guide

Beautiful park, sour attitudes at Okaukuejo and Anderson's Gate - We were three cars entering Etosha from Von Lindequist gate after a memorable stay at Emanya Lodge just outside the park. Our first night at Namutoni was good, although one could see the nicely renovated cottages lacked "being loved", showing early signs of disrepair. A highlight was the outdoor shower. Our stay at Halali on the second night went well and on the third day we travelled to Okaukuejo. On our way out of the park, we were very disappointed (in contrast with the other two camps we visited) to be treated with no warmth and in an unfriendly manner. I bought a souvenir at the curio shop and was told there were "no bags" by the unfriendly shop assistant who did not bother to even look at me. The kiosk food was bad, with service to match. When we attempted to leave the park at Anderson's Gate at 16:00, we were told that we were supposed to leave at 13:00 or pay for another day. (This turned out to be a new rule made up at the spur of the moment to inconvenience us.) Because we were travelling with young children, we were in no position to turn back and travel 17km to Okaukuejo to pay the outstanding amount and promised to return the next day to make the payment. When we returned the next day to Okaukuejo to pay, nobody knew what the payment was for (although they did accept the payment...). Other than this, Etosha remains a beautiful park with exquisite fauna and flora.

Very latest review at Etosha - We booked into Halali within 20 minutes and found the staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the resident "ratels" doing their rounds at the dustbins, although sad to see this. Halali should try to develop locked bins at night. Sad to see these wild animals groping for food and trying to chew empty cans. We had a great time and found the facilities clean. Even though the park was filled every night with visitors, the ablution facilities were cleaned daily. We will go again as after all you go to see animals and not to get 5 star service!
