There is a special wilderness area in Namibia, encircled by Erongo Mountains, where the desert, mountain, and bushveld ecosystems combine. Here, in a secluded valley, you will find a lodge with ten luxury tented chalets in a dramatic setting of granite boulders and breathtaking views. We invite you to luxuriate in this richness of nature. The lodge has 10 tented chalets, built on stilts, set against towering granite formations. Each chalet has its own niche amongst the rocks, ensuring peace, privacy and exclusivity. The luxury Meru tents are pitched under steep thatched roofs for shade, and have netting across all windows and doors, allowing only the breeze to enter. The en-suite bathrooms are built around the existing rocks and trees, naturally. With it's own private deck, bush-style mini-bar, and spectacular setting, each chalet is the best way to experience the lush Erongo environment. Atop a separate granite hill, the restaurant and lounge also offer spectacular views of the mountain landscape. Guests and animals are able to view each other while enjoying a drink – the guests from the outside deck, and the animals from the floodlit waterhole below. With a large, central fireplace, comfortable lounge and our ‘mokoro’ bar, this area is as much for unwinding as it is for fine wining and dining. Languid days are spent at the adjacent swimming pool and ‘relaxation’ deck. Erongo Wilderness Lodge is nestled amid granite formations on the outskirts of an ancient volcano. These are the Erongo Mountains – a spectacular feature in the heart of a country renowned for it’s scenic beauty. Flanked by the Namib Desert to the West and mixed-woodland savannah to the East, the mountains form a rare confluence of ecosystems that give rise to remarkable biodiversity, including a vast array of plant, reptile, mammal and bird species that are endemic to Namibia. The lodge is a founder member of The Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy, joining 30 private landowners in a collective effort to conserve and protect this natural treasure of over 200 000ha in extent. The Conservancy’s mission includes the preservation of the rich cultural heritage in the form of rock paintings and engravings that are found throughout the area, such as at the Paula’s Cave rock art site at Erongo Wilderness Lodge.

Kashana is based in a historic building constructed in 1907 as a casino for local mine-workers. It is thought that the house probably gained its name from the surrounding bush savannah which resembled a wide open plain, or Kashana, in the Owambo language.

The years took their toll on the building and after painstaking restoration to its former glory, it once again reflects its German Colonial heritage and was re-opened in 2007. Today, the building is the centre-piece of a lodge-style guest house, with a novel and attractive bar and a popular all-day à la carte restaurant frequented not only by residents, but also by passing travellers and local towns people, all enjoying the tranquil shade of the garden courtyard.

The courtyard is skirted by a number of small shops and businesses, including a florist, hairdresser, and the innovative Nawa-Nawa Art Centre which provides services for guests and supports the local community. Beyond the courtyard, fronting the river, newly built guest accommodation is to be found. Work also continues discretely elsewhere to expand the scope and facilities of the complex - the most obvious addition being the recently completed swimming pool, terrace and lapa.

Pelican Point Lodge is situated on a unique stretch of land, the remote peninsula of Pelican Point at Walvis Bay. With the untouched beaches of the Atlantic Ocean on the one side and the lagoon of Walvis Bay on the other, our aim is to provide you with an unique experience that demands nothing much of you, but to arrive, relax, reflect and unwind in one of the most enchanting and unique settings in our beautiful country.

Accommodation is offered in the renovated old harbour control building, at the foot of the lighthouse, known as Pelican Point Lodge and offers our guests a choice of nine luxury suites. All our suites are spacious, decorated in a warm contemporary style and designed to make use of the beautiful views even whilst showering. The suites include a seating and lounge area, and a deck area to enjoy the amazing view of the lagoon. Each suite includes a direct-dial telephone, a hairdryer, a private safe, iPhone charger, and gowns and slippers. Blankets are provided on the deck for the sometimes chilly, windy evenings. Our guests can dine in private in their suite, or on their deck.

From your own private deck, guests can expect to enjoy the antics of hundreds of seals surfing the ocean waves, or just their basking in the sun, spot the dolphins, whales and mola-mola, and hear the distinctive call of the jackals roaming close by the lodge, observing their playful nature. Guests can witness spectacular flocks of damara-terns, cormorants and flamingos flying or feeding in the more tranquil waters of the lagoon. Follow fishing vessels, passenger ships, oil-rigs, catamarans, and boat operators to and from the Walvis Bay harbour which all presents perfect photo opportunities on misty or bright sunny days.

For closer encounters, a relaxing stroll to the point of the peninsula will present you with perfect photographic opportunities. A familiar favourite is a walk to the old rusted jetty, about 800 m from the lodge, with a book, a camera, and a picnic basket. On a clear sunny day the dunes of the Namib Desert, the ships, vessels and boats on the lagoon will give you a perfect backdrop to create special memories of this unique place.
