Lodge Afriquè is situated in the village of St Lucia, on a glorious stretch of coastline fringed with golden beaches and caressed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

Lodge Afriquè is a bed and breakfast lodge offering eight free-standing, en-suite thatched units and can cater for up to 16 people at a time. The spacious chalets are situated in a tropical garden with a sparkling pool and each offers air-conditioning, a private outdoor shower and a patio.

All the chalets are connected to the central lodge by a raised wooden deck. The central lodge includes the breakfast area, bar, braai and leisure area, and is equipped with Satellite television and free Internet access. Secure parking is also provided.

This region, in the northeast of KwaZulu-Natal, is also known as the Elephant Coast; an astonishingly beautiful strip of land stretching some 220 km long and 70 km wide. Bound by mountains, the ocean and bushveld, the area holds many of nature's miracles and secrets and provides an unspoilt ecotourism playground with an untamed spirit.

Lake St Lucia is a 65 km long estuary system with a total area of 330 km. iSimangaliso Wetland Park, previously known as the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, was declared a World Heritage Site on 1 December 1999. With a surface area of 32 800 hectares, the park is considered the second largest in South Africa. The town of St Lucia has a vibrant holiday atmosphere with all the necessary amenities such as restaurants, curio shops and several tour operators.

The 12 twin bed rooms all feature a bathroom en-suite with a bath and shower. An interleading door makes these units perfect for families – kids can sleep in the neighbouring room while you still enjoy your privacy.

Units are fitted with a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, private verandah and air-conditioner.

Some of the cabins are equipped with braai areas and some of the cabins are offered on a bed and breakfast basis. Guests are able to select the best option for them. There are two-bedroom and three-bedroom luxury self-catering log cabins that make up Monzi Safari Lodge. The units are all stylishly furbished, with leather couches and have a flat screen TVs, DStv and air-conditioning. Each unit has its own splash pool and sun deck.

The lodge is situated between Matubatuba and St Lucia. It is centrally situated for visiting the Isimangaliso Wetland Park as well as the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park.

Adjacent to Ubizane Wildlife Reserve is the renowned Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, the oldest in Africa where the Big 5 roam the bush. There is plenty to see in the immediate vicinity of the reserve, with game viewing being top of the list.

Meals are served in the boma - an outdoor covered dining area that overlooks the fever tree forest and waterhole. At night, log fires are lit creating an enchanting, romantic, African bush atmosphere and the pan-African cuisine offers a variety of dishes in buffet style.

It remains the best place to have close encounters with both Black and White Rhino in Africa. Visitors to the region are often faced with the choice of staying within the park’s large 250 bed state run Hilltop Camp or in a private lodge outside of the reserve.

Hluhluwe River Lodge is situated just 25 minutes from the Memorial Gate entrance and offers daily morning, evening and full day guided trips into the reserve. We offer an intimate and personalised lodge experience for 24 guests in a location overlooking Lake St Lucia. Also on offer are a variety of adventures such as horse riding, scenic mountain bike trails, hikes, boat trips and a tour on quad bikes.

Meals are served most often on the lodge terrace with its view of the lake and surrounding bush. Our chefs Cindi, Caba and Bona prepare a variety of delicious Kudu and Nyala venison fillet along with the best local organic beef and Lamb all flame grilled to your liking. Fresh sea fish such as Dorado, Yellowtail and King Mackerel are regulars on the dinner menu as well as a variety of Spicy Indian Curries and Chicken dishes all prepared with African influenced flavours and fresh vegetables from our local organic grower. The explorers bar is always a hive of activity in the evenings with guests enjoying a pre dinner drink on the sundowner deck before settling down to a candlelit dinner. After dinner liquors and Irish coffee around the terrace log fire is the ideal end to a day of exploring the area.

Besides catching a glimpse of the activity at the watering hole, the rooms also look up at the majestic Ubizane Hill.

A beautiful lodge with a heritage spanning over 40 years, Safari Lodge is scattered around the spacious rolling lawns dotted with aged aloes, replanted from different areas on the farm, as well as scented thorn trees providing a beautiful backdrop to the setting. Rondavel-style rooms all face the constant watering hole nestled under the marula trees quenching in the thirst of the giraffe, zebra, nyala, impala, and kudu. The watering hole is also lit at night giving a possible glimpse of animals roaming around in the dark.

There is a variety of different styled rooms at Safari Lodge, all of them with our trademark glass panelled sliding doors, allowing not an inch of nature escaping without being noticed by the guests from within the rooms. All rooms are fully self-catering, featuring a fully-equipped kitchen and a private patio with comfortable furniture.

Safari Lodge has a swimming pool area, communal braais, and a boma with a bonfire pit which can be used on request. We do not charge any additional costs for the use of Family Rooms but we do however limit them to only be used for guests of minimum three people. We charge a per person per night rate and extra for additional guests.

Sip sundowners in Nhlange Pub with amazing views and enjoy cuisine with a distinctive local flavour in the cosy atmosphere of the Umdoni Restaurant and Bar overlooking the pool and the sun deck. Two, four and six bedded rustic lodges are comfortably appointed. The structures consist of thatched roofs, treated poles, wooden floors on stilts and reed walls – typically Tonga and Zulu style. Accommodation is rustic more than plush, but the setting and range of activities make a stay well worthwhile.

Full board or self-catering options are available and all chalets have fully equipped kitchens with private barbecues and access to the boma areas. Accent is on comfort, informal service and attention, and guests are encouraged to explore this unique environment by friendly staff who are on hand to assist with information and arranging outings. For the adventurous, there are numerous activities and excursions that fully utilize the many resources available.

Kosi Bay is a place where fishermen can revere their surroundings, with kingfish, queenfish, stumpnose, shad, grunter, mullet and garrick just a fraction of what is available from the waters of this region. While Kosi Bay has such wonders as the two-armed mudskipper fish and the one-armed fiddler crab, nearby Ndumo Game Reserve sports rather larger wonders of the animal kingdom, including rhino, giraffe, warthog, zebra, kudu, nyala and impala, as well as over 400 bird species.

Other day tours include Black Rock, Lala Neck and Bhanga Nek – home to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s 30 year old turtle research facility – all within easy reach. 4×4 vehicles are recommended.

This private lodge has four chalets and is nestled between the fertile bush and the abundant birdlife. Each chalet sleeps up to three and have an en-suite bathroom. There is a communal kitchen, lounge and dining area. Electricity is supplied by a 220v solar power system; however this cannot handle electrical appliances such as kettles and hair driers.

For groups wishing to self-cater yet have the services of a cook an additional charge of R250 per night is charged.
