We found it very accessible, both as a base to dip into Durban and to the resorts further up the coast. Plus, its only around 15-20 mins to the new King Shaka Airport and easy to find. Seems quick to get into town as well and not too confusing. Great access to the Casino complex for shopping and a host of restaurants.

Last year December was my first time visiting Durban north. My experience was a great one as i found Durban North decent and a beautiful place to be. Its not as hectic as Durban South. I also loved the fact that it at the close proximity with most malls and entertainment places. I loved the experience and looking forward to go back this year

I enjoyed Durban North dearly, a weekend was not enough to explore the whole of it . Shopping was a great experience and the beach as a Joburger I would like to go back for another round with the girls. Shaka Marine World, Restuarants, Sibaya Casino and shopping at the Pavillion thumbs up.

Durban North is a large, well established suburb to the north of the Umgeni River. Settled in the 1930's the suburb still contains original period homes along with many contemporary additions. Being a well to do suburb with large gracious homes, there are many BnB's and Guesthouses to choose from as well as a couple of small hotels. Durban North is a good location from which to base your Durban visit. The CBD and attractions such as Ushaka marine world are a mere 10-15 minute drive to the south while the impressive Gateway theatre of shopping is just 10 minutes to the north. If you are in Durban for business, the Springfield, Briardine, and Riverhorse Valley industrial estates are 5-10 minutes away. The busines parks of La Lucia and Umhlanga ridge are 10 minutes to the north. Beaches are 10 minutes north to Umhlanga and 10 minutes south to Country Club/North beach. The fabulous Moses Mabhida soccer stadium is 5 minutes from Durban North and Kings Park rugby stadium is just next door. Attractions you will find in Durban north itself include the Beechwood Mangrove conservation area which is a great place to take the family for a picnic. Just up the road from the mangroves is the Umgeni River Bird Park which is always worth a visit for its twice daily shows. For sport lovers the Beechwood Golf course and club is situated along the beachfront, next to the private Virginia Airport which is also the locastion for the annual Durban Air Show every July. The Kings Park rugby stadium and pool are also just 5 minutes down the road. Durban North boasts some nice restaurants as well. In the Broadway shopping area you have two standouts; The Mad Italian is a small busy restaurant listed on Trip Advisor, it is busy even mid week so its a good idea to book ahead. 'Gabys Tazca' is a Portugese style restaurant serving very good sea and other food in generous portions. You will find a huge array of restaurants and fast food places in the Broadway area, something for every taste. Just down the road from Broadway towards the Riverside Drive you will find the well known 'China Plate', one of the best chinese restaurants in Durban, ask for the house specialty of Natal Langostines.

Durban North is the best tourist destination that one can enjoy, especially with its Umhlanga Beach, Gateway Shopping Mall, Ushaka Marine and other entertainment. It is a very quiet place with a limited risk of crime. Accommodation along Umhlanga Road makes it easy to arrive at your destination since most of the areas are along this route.

Durban North is a very nice area for holiday, entertainment and tourism. Not far from most interesting places, e.g the beach and Moses Mabhida Stadium.
