The home of blomme en Perron puts it on for Spring time!
The fifth annual Voorkamerfest is raring to go in Darling. It’s almost time for the number one entertainment festival in Darling, South Africa - the unique Voorkamerfest (Front Room Festival) that proudly celebrates its Jubilee status this year.

Initially conceptualised by Pieter-Dirk Uys, Darling’s most famous resident, together with the Artistic Director of the Royal Carré Theatre in Amsterdam Wim Visser and the well-known Dutch impresario Inge Bos, the Voorkamerfest is a one-of- a- kind festival that carries an element of surprise for the audience. Visitors buy a ticket for a route-there are seven in total- and during this unforgettable journey between three homes in Darling, three varied performances can be enjoyed and audiences never know who they will see until they arrive at each voorkamer. The owners of the houses are also the hosts and a truly South African cultural experience awaits all, with an exciting mix of theatre genres catering to all tastes. Theatre venues range from small township houses to some of Darling’s grand Victorian homes with local minibus taxis transporting the audiences to their various destinations all over the town.

Organiser Marietha Channell says, “this festival has a broad appeal and each year it attracts local and international audiences who are intrigued by its uniqueness, the outstanding performers and of course the beauty of Darling and its surrounds!”

Darling is a village only 55 minutes north of Cape Town that is known for its gorgeous spectacle of wild flowers, wonderful wine estates, vibrant community and of course Evita se Perron, which is the hub of the fest.

The 5th annual Voorkamerfest takes place from the 5-7 September 2008. Booking has opened for the Friends of the Voorkamerfest and for the general public.
