Chelsea Conservancy Travel Guide

Nature and Beauty Preserved - The Chelsea Nature Conservancy was established many years ago to protect the fauna and flora of this magnificent area just 10 Km out of Port Elizabeth. ~ The area is situated up on a ridge giving spectacular views over the India Ocean and the Sardinia Bay dunes which are a marine protected domain. A spectacular, and at the same time, intimate beach features interesting rock formations and pools, as well as a life guard supervised swimming area. At night you an watch the lights of the chokka boats fishing at various distances or, if you are lucky, see the flourescent blue of a special algae in the breakers. ~ During the day, dolphins can been seen cavorting near the breakers and sometimes a whale breaches the waters' surface. ~ The Conservancy, dotted with spacious small holdings, still boasts undamaged fynbos and magnificent milkwoods. They are host to mongoose, bushbuck, vervet monkeys, the odd porcupine and a prolific birdlife - a treat for any bird watcher. ~ The area is one of the best places to unwind in its beauty and simplicity: a sanctuary from the world. ~ When you are done relaxing, you can go horseback riding on the beach, windsurf on the waves or kite down the slopes at Beachview; alternatively, you can go deep sea fishing, visit one of the charming restaurants in the area or visit the Seaview Lion Park nearby. Chelsea Nature Conservancy is one the last unspoilt secrets in and around Port Elizabeth/Ibahyi. Visit and explore ! You won't regret it :-)
