Wierda Park Suburb of Centurion

Lovely little suburb - Lovely little suburb in Centurion. It is quiet and close to shopping centres, restaurants, highways, interesting places. It also seems relatively quiet in terms of burglaries etc.

Rustige area - Dit is baie rustig en stil area. Dit laat my dink aan die plateland waar ek afkomstig is.

Irene Suburb of Centurion

Over-rated and not as cosy & posh - In my humble opinion Irene security village is over-rated and not as cosy & posh as people say it is. Irene security village is like any other neighbourhood in Gauteng, just the stone walls look better. You still have to drive to get to a restaurant as Irene security village does not have any inside the boomed off area nor is there a park inside the Irene security village.

wierda park - nice for a sunday outing with the nearby museums etc. We went to Smuts Museum in Doornkloof and also saw the "petting zoo" or farm nearby in Irene. Lovely for the family.

Wierda Park Suburb of Centurion

Wierda Park my home... a true symbol of peace. - Away from the hustle and bustle of the large city and yet within a walking distance to the beautiful Raslouw and the Reds malls as well as 10 minutes drive to Centurion Shopping Center/mall, one of the largest and most popular shopping centres in town. Menlyn and Brooklyn malls in Pretoria as well as Sandton & Johannesburg CBD in the South, Eastgate malls in South East which have a variety of shops are only 15 minutes away. Accessible to the roads to OR Tambo.

Irene Suburb of Centurion

Irene, the place to be! - Irene is the place to be! Whether you are here on business or leisure, to enjoy a sporting event or relax, the arts, culture, cuisine, nature or history: it's all here! The beautiful village of Irene is more than a century old. Evidence thereof is everywhere to be seen: The Concentration Camp dating back to the Anglo Boer War, Smuts Museum as well as the influential Van der Bijl family's Dairy farm with it's beautiful big trees. Synonymous with Irene is it's big trees and birdlife which comes with it. The locals even spot owls and bush babies in their gardens at night. Despite the village feeling, Irene is very close to all amenities: 20 minutes drive from O R Thambo International Airport as well as a short distance to Midrand. The Gautrain makes distances between Centurion and Pretoria as well as Johannesburg feel much shorter. Irene has it's own golf course and the area is enjoyed by joggers and cyclists alike. People enjoy taking their dogs to the Oval over week ends where the children can also join in the fun. Super Sport Park is closeby for all the cricket fans. Artists from all over perform at Centurion Theatre and a flea market selling homemade products and artwork is held every second Saturday of the month. Irene Village Mall offers restaurants, the movies and interesting shops which are all linked by open air walkways. Accommodation in the area include anything from self catering to luxury accommodation with a spa as well as top class wedding venue. Come visit Irene - you'll be surprised to find cows grazing alongside the road while you are heading for the highway!

Irene Suburb of Centurion

Irene - Centurion - The town of Irene started in 1902 and was laid out on the farm Doornkloof. Concentration camps were set up in Irene during the Second Boer War to house Boer families in 1901. The Camp Cemetery is well kept and has 576 tombstones carved by hand. You can also find memorial stones there with the names of some of the deceased. The Garden of Memorial in located on Stopforth Road in Irene. On your way to Centurion CDB when driving from Pierre van Ryneveld on Nellmapius Road you will pass the irene Dairy farm that was established in 1895. What a pleasure to watch the cows grazing on lovely green grass in the middle of a big city. On the farm you can buy fresh milk, cream, cheese and delicious rusks, cakes, etc at the shop. The open air "Barn Restaurant" on the farm has breakfast and lunch to enjoy while the children run around on the farm and even touching the cows. The Jan Smuts House is a museum and the Irene Flea Mrket is held on its grounds. Only selected and original art is sold here and they are open every 2nd and last Saturdays of the month. Super Sport Park in Centurion has hosted many cricket tournaments and among the best in the country. Pierre van Ryneveld is situated next to Irene is named after Sir Hesperus Andrias van Ryneveld. (1891 - 1972) He served in the Royal Air Force and was the 1st to fly across the continent from England to South Africa. He and his co-pilot was knighted for this pioneering feat. The Waterkloof Air Force base is in Pierre van Ryneveld and host air shows from time to time. The African Air Froce Meseum is in Swartkop, Centurion. The Irene Village Mall is next to the R21 with entrances from van Rynveld Road and Nellmapius Steet. A place to treat and enjoy yourself to movies, shops and restaurants. Centurion Mall has a variety of dining, entertaining and shopping for the whole family. Over 200 stores, make this your ultimate shopping destination. Oos, Wes, Tuis Bes.

Eldoriagne a suburb with a Difference - Eldoraigne is a suburb in the west of centurion. It's a safe and child friendly area with many quiant small shopping centres, beautiful houses, superb restaurants and fantastic hotels. There are many B&Bs, Guest Houses and Boutique Hotels that will cater for any guest needs. Eldoraigne is close to all the major highways running through Centurion and is centrally located inbetween 3 large shopping malls.

Irene - This is our second visit to the area and we found the people friendly and accommodating. What a surprise to find so many trees and birds. It is awesome to wake up to quiet mornings and all you hear are birds chirping. Close enough to big shopping centres. I would recommend staying there anytime.
