Champagne Valley is an area of outstanding beauty situated in the Central Drakensberg, a World Heritage Site, and only two hours’ drive from Durban and three and a half hours from Johannesburg. The two highest peaks, Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak are to be found in this region of the Central Drakensberg.

Cathkin Cottage Bed and Breakfast is conveniently situated, opposite the Drakensberg Sun Resort, in the heart of Champagne Valley and is in close proximity to all local attractions and restaurants, with many hikes starting from the cottage. It is a mere 4 km drive from The Champagne Sports Resort, with Cathkin Farm and Champagne Castle Hotel also in close proximity.

Cathkin Cottage Bed and Breakfast is intimate and offers warm hospitality with comfortable accommodation in well-appointed rooms, all en suite. Each room comprises tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini-bar fridge and is fully serviced daily. The added luxury of down duvets, and cotton percale and sateen bed linen, and fluffy towels makes your stay even more comfortable. The rooms are equipped with fans and heaters and should you require interleading rooms, these are available.

The Little Berg mountain range, with Mount Cleopatra, Mount Erskine and Mount Lebanon, provide the backdrops of the estate comprising a Bed and Breakfast Lodge and two self-catering units.

This area is a favourite with nature lovers, hikers and fisherman alike, and if you simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the mountains, then this is the perfect place for you. There are many activities to keep the energetic going such as hiking, fly-fishing, boating, volley ball, and a 300-metre golf driving range. Enjoy trout fishing in our dams or in the rivers and streams that run abundantly through the estate. Small waterfalls cascade in the higher grounds of the mountain slopes and little springs pop up in unexpected places. There are five dams on the estate which also boasts its own mountain and natural forest.

Enjoy a picnic or sundowners on the banks of the river, around a wood fire or enjoy the sounds of the river gushing over the rocks into rock pools where in summer this is a fun spot for a quick dip to cool off or swim. Take a stroll down to the wetlands or along the many trails on the estate or take a hike up the mountain and enjoy the beautiful views of the Kamberg Valley. Along the way there are numerous types of flora and fauna, animal life, buck and eland to look out for.

This two-bedroom cottage is set on a farm and is fully furnished. There are two lovely rooms, one bathroom, a comfortable lounge with a fireplace, dining area and small library of books for your enjoyment. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes all cooking facilities, cutlery and crockery. A TV is available with a DVD player. The cottage has a dish but only local channels can be viewed. Guest are welcome to bring along their own decoder if they would like watch satellite channels. In addition the unit has an automatic washing machine for that inevitable laundry day.

Outside guest will find a large patio area with braai facilities. This is the ideal accommodation for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers and anyone wanting to get away to the country side. We have four villas with stylish, luxurious and romantic décor. Three villas have four bedrooms each and one has two bedrooms, totalling 14 bedrooms; three bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, and one villa has a shower and bath in the bedroom. The villas can be rented as a whole, some as individual rooms and some as one, two or three-bedroom units; each unit has its own open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchenette. Guests have access to a swimming pool and can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the mountains. Breakfast is available as an optional extra.

Situated in the Central Drakensberg, which forms part of a World Heritage Site, River Crossing is bounded by both the Mtoti and the Sterkspruit rivers. Local, frequently spotted reedbuck and duiker take their refuge in the surrounding riverine vegetation.

Clivia Hill is situated on Bell Park Dam in the Central Drakensberg region of KwaZulu-Natal and offers self-catering or bed and breakfast accommodation in a tranquil and scenically beautiful setting.

The thatched guest cottage, which comfortably sleeps six adults, comprises a living area with open-plan kitchen and three double bedrooms, each with its own bath- or shower room adjacent or en suite. The two upper bedrooms open onto a balcony offering scenic views through 180 degrees. All the rooms are equipped with wall heaters for cold winter nights and ceiling fans and mosquito burners for summer. The living area, which has DSTV and a log fireplace, opens onto a private shaded porch with a built-in braai and a Weber. Stone steps lead down through an indigenous rockery into an extensive clivia-filled garden from which a gate gives direct access to the dam. A two-seater canoe is available for hire.

Bell Park Dam is popular for fishing, sailing, motor boating, water skiing and bird watching. Nearby, in the wider Central Berg area, sports lovers have the options of horse riding, golf, tennis, swimming and bowls, as well as canopy tours, horse trails, hiking, cycling, river rafting, motor and quad biking and mountain walking and climbing. For entertainment of a different kind, the famous Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School presents regular concerts during the term and hosts the annual music in the Mountains weekend in late April. Places of interest within easy reach are the internationally acclaimed Ardmore Pottery, the colorful Thokozisa and Cedarwood shopping centres, the Midlands Meander with its craft shops and restaurants, the Spioenkop Game Reserve, rock art sites and various Boer War battle sites, among them Spioenkop and Ladysmith. As to food and wine, the Champagne Valley offers a number of hotels, restaurants and coffee shops, as well as two small supermarkets, a liquor store and the superb Valley Bakery, while a butchery, liquor store, wine agent and larger supermarket can be found in Winterton, as can a doctor and pharmacy.

Clivia Hill seasonal specialities:
· Music in the Mountains at the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School at the end of April.
· Snow on the High Berg in winter.
· Clivia season in early spring (end of August to mid-September) when this spectacular indigenous lily is in full bloom throughout the Clivia Hill garden.

Bed linen and bedding are provided at Clivia Hill, but no towels or sports gear. Guests must bring their own towels, food, drinks and whatever sports or recreational equipment they require.

Klipfontein is an extensive cattle ranch of typical African rolling savannah hills against the backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains. This is the perfect stop over for weary travellers. The farm is ideally placed for a quick exit from the N3 National Highway, near Estcourt. Our farm entrance is only 1 km from an N3 interchange. We are also midway between Johannesburg and the Natal coastal resorts. We are situated a few km north of Estcourt Shell Ultra City Petrol stop on the N3 highway and 20 km from Winterton.

Klipfontein Cottage provides an ideal place for visits to any of the major Drakensberg Mountain resorts such as Mont-aux-sources, Cathedral Peak, Champagne Castle and the Champagne Valley offers a variety of attractions such as visits to the Falcon Display Centre, Drakensberg Boys Choir School, Berg flights. Giants Castle Nature Reserve with its historic Bushmen paintings and caves has much to offer.

Weenen Game Reserve and Spionkop game Reserve are about 30 minute drive away. Amongst other game species such as kudu, zebra, giraff, wildebeest, blesbok, worthog etcetera, white and black rhino can also be seen. Horse riding amongst the game is offered at Spion kop Game Reserve.

Boer war battle sites are close by such as Churchill's armoured car de-railment site and the battles of Spionkop and Colenso.

The cottage is private and set in its own garden. Security is of a high standard as the cottage and its garden are part of the farm homestead complex and are enclosed with a perimeter electric fence and gate. The cottage sleeps two adults, there is a double queen-size bed and a single bed in two interleading rooms with TV, en-suite bathroom has shower, basin and toilet. A kitchenette has a small fridge, kettle with tea, coffee, toaster, microwave/conventional oven crockery and cutlery and a sink.

Supper may be arranged at an additional cost of R60. If you want to braai/barbeque, it will be provided on request.
