If you want to escape the urban jungles for majestic mountains, fabulous fresh air and friendly locals, then the Central Drakensberg region is for you. There are plenty of outdoor activities to choose from, local African curio shops and creative crafts to take home with you. The Drakensberg Boys Choir is a must see. The wildlife is superb; an absolute natural treat. (Be careful where you choose to stay however. The Champagne Cottages near Bell Dam, seriously need updating. Although the setting is lovely, the cottages need complete refurbishment and some major pest control...)

What a wonderful experience! The Mountain and especially the Central Berg at Champagne Castle with this awesome scenery and beatiful Nature around you, made you feel so small at God's Creation. Peace fills you when you driving through to visit all the interesting Curious and Coffee Shops. It was the most relaxed few days I had in a long time. I will definately visit that area again soon.

Only here do you see the dragons back mountain; the very heart of the Drakensberg. The towering giants of Champagne castle, Cathkin peak and Sterkhorn stare down beyond the plateau of the little berg, to the forested foothills and valleys below. This is a paradise lost in a world of silence, broken only by gentle breezes, bird songs, and natures orchestra of trickling streams and cascading waterfalls. Clear night skies offer unsurpassed stargazing while winter can boast snow topped crags, viwed from cozy fireplaces with hot homemade soup. Escape to this wonderland to renew the soul or enjoy the many unique experiences offered exclusively in this area; world famous Drakensberg Boys Choir, Canopy trails, unusual adventure centres.

Our first visit to Central Drakensberg and we could not believe that we waited so long! We have such a magnificant country. Stunning views and friendly people. We definitely want to experience more on our next visit.

This was my first trip to the Drakensberg. I am thrilled to have 'found' it at last and it has surely become one of my favourite holiday destinations. You can get it all here. Natural beauty that lifts your spirits and just lets you soak away the stress of living in its tranquillity. The central 'berg' also has lovely spas and natural therapies that help ease the stress from your body, mind and soul. If you prefer action, then there is a lot to do - I won't say more because there are loads of websites with things that you can do besides the obvious hikes. Then if the weather turns misty or rainy, the central 'berg' has plenty of wonderful shopping and/or browsing opportunities. The local crafts are plentiful and reasonable compared to the city or some coastal towns. Great for home furnishings, art, clothing, and more. If you have never been, then I really recommend that you plan a holiday here soon! I'm going back for my next break, for sure!

Ideal for family retreats as well as business conferences. Paradise like surroundings brought us very close to nature and our creator Jehovah God.
