Riekie shares her tale of an amusing little hitch at the Little Bushveld Guest House - Passion Killer or Mastermind?
Many a guesthouse owner has had one of those dreadful experiences where
something goes wrong, very wrong - just minutes before guests arrive.
Here is our story:
Little Bushveld Guesthouse has an innovative Bush camp with an ablution
in a split-pole-fenced boma where one can shower with only an acacia
tree as roof – a very relaxing experience. Hot water was at the time of
the incident supplied to the shower via an old, unreliable Junkers gas
geyser which simply failed to start-up when again tested minutes before
guests were to arrive on a Friday afternoon.
Having paid for what was
offered, a cold shower experience was definitely not to be popular with
our guests!! Our solution in desperation to the young couple was that
hot water had to be prepared on the 2-plate gas stove, carried to the
boma with a plastic watering-can and making turns to be the “showerer”
and the one to be “showered” with the latter sitting in a big plastic
tub!! When asked at departure whether all went well we were met with
beaming smiles and a shy “it was a VERY, VERY interesting and enjoyable
weekend”
*The Junkers has since been replaced with a modern installation substantially reducing the stress factor.
