Ezulwini Billy's Lodge is a place where Africa remains unspoilt. Here, the emphasis is on friendliness and informality. Your personal game ranger will share his experiences of the bush and animals on drives in an open safari vehicle. At dusk, he will take you into the world of nocturnal creatures on a night drive, stopping for sundowners as the sun drops over the Drakensberg Mountains to be replaced by a blanket of stars. Perhaps you will take one of the more thrilling walks of all through lion country where you will get closer to natures small creatures, trees and birds than you will ever imagine.

Billy's Lodge nestles deep in the heart of lion country and is surrounded by magnificent knobthorn, leadwood and marula trees. The lodge features ample lounge areas, dining rooms and game viewing decks, as well as sumptuous leather armchairs, exquisite leadwood sculptures and original paintings by David Johnson. Billy's Lodge also boasts one of the finest wine cellars in Africa, set against a natural rock face and resembling an ancient Bushman cave.

Back at the camp, the swimming pool invites you to cool off and your charming African chalet with its thatched roof invites you to take rest through the heat of the African day. We have the Big 7 on the reserve, as well as some 460 species of birds. Our lodges in the Balule Private Nature Reserve are exclusive, luxury thatched camps offering an intimate and affordable experience, whilst still retaining the spirit of Africa.

Pondoro is on the banks of the Olifants River inside the 40 000-hectare Balule Nature Reserve. There are no fences between Balule Nature Reserve and the Kruger National Park, which means all the animals move freely between Balule and the Kruger.

Pondoro Game Lodge has been operating as a commercial lodge for the past 13 years. We invite guests to indulge in the ultimate luxury when selecting anyone of our luxury suites during your stay. All our suites are air-conditioned and offer modern comforts. Each suite has a private wooden deck, a lounge area, a Jacuzzi and an outside shower for those who are adventurous at heart. We have three luxury chalets overlooking the Olifants River. Each chalet has an African theme, an en-suite bathroom with a shower overlooking the river, air-conditioning, mosquito nets and a wooden deck. Please note we do not accept children under the age of 12.

Meals are an extraordinary culinary experience where traditional African cuisine fuses effortlessly with modern European trends. To complement the food, guests can select wine from our extensive wine cellar. We cater for vegetarians and we serve all meals on a wooden deck high up in the tree canopy overlooking the Olifants River. An unforgettable bush dinner will await those who stay for a third night.

Regular Big 5 sightings include lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. There was a reintroduction of African wild dogs in the Pondoro traversing area. Morning and evening game drives are in open game drive vehicles. All guides have more than five years’ experience. Pondoro has rights to traverse on more than 10 000 hectares that includes a network of more than 350 km of bush roads. All game drive vehicles are four-wheel drive and this means that we can follow the Big 5 off road into the bush to get a closer view if necessary.

Toro Yaka Bush Lodge is a one-of-a-kind lodge located in the unforgettably pristine bushveld of Balule. It is a 30 000-hectare nature conservancy in the Greater Kruger National Park area. Tsakane is located in the Balule Nature Reserve which is home to the Big 5 and also boasts a wide variety of fauna and flora, interesting topography and beautiful vistas. The Balule Nature Reserve forms part of the nearly 3.5 million-hectare Greater Kruger National Park.

Tsakane Safari Camp has been carefully designed to integrate with the natural environment and to reflect the ambience of a walking safari and wilderness trail base camp. Accommodation units comprise two wooden thatched cabins and two thatched canvas tents, each accommodating two guests with en-suite showers and toilets. The units are fanned along the perimeter of the unfenced camp and our entertainment boma, reading lounge, Jacuzzi deck, splash pool with tanning deck, bar and dinner boma.

We believe that catering is an integral part of the safari experience. In order to ensure that this philosophy is realized, meals are seldom served at the same venue and depending on environmental conditions may include an adventurous bush barbecue or a relaxing riverside brunch picnic. Our menu reflects typical wholesome and healthy bush food and most meals are uniquely prepared on an open fire.

Walking safaris are not necessarily about viewing game from the comfort of a luxury game vehicle but rather about establishing an intimate relationship with nature. To achieve this, we take you on a 150-million-year journey through time and our celebrated rangers allow you to explore and experience how, why and when this amazing ecology has developed into one of the world’s largest open ecologies.

Typically our rangers will encourage you to experience the interaction between species and the importance of ecological diversity. You will see how these ecological systems are managed and you will never miss an opportunity to get involved in the age-old art of tracking big game and the thrill of approaching them on foot.

Tremisana Game Lodge was a founder member of the Balule Game Reserve. Tremisana is the largest and leading lodge in this section, accommodating a maximum of 40 guests.

The lodge offers accommodation in chalets which are air-conditioned and feature en-suite bathrooms with showers, toilets and basins. Its proximity to the tar road means Tremisana is easily accessible all year round, including the rainy season. The presence of lions, elephant and buffalo necessitates the maintaining of an electric fence around the camp.

Perhaps the most striking feature of Tremisana Game Lodge is the beautiful gardens. The presence of numerous bougainvillea and various palms and cycads gives the camp a subtropical ambience. Water features add a soothing effect and the overall feel of Tremisana is very relaxing. At night, the subdued light from the illuminated paved walkways lend a romantic and magical flavour to this outstanding camp. The staff members at Tremisana are all from the local villages. The supervisor, Delina Mnisi, has been with Viva Safaris for 13 years and has worked her way up from general assistant. Delina is a talented chef and her home-made bread and mouth-watering soups have made her internationally remembered.

Most of the other lodge owners on Balule are always amazed at the excellent sightings of animals at Tremisana. Despite its relatively small size, the area around Tremisana always seems to produce something really good. We have seen all of the Big 5, namely lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalos and leopards on the property, as well as cheetahs and wild dogs. Tremisana Game Lodge can also assist with organizing sunset game drives, full day Kruger National Park tours, game walks and sunset game drives.

The Balule Nature Reserve, also called the Balule Private Game Reserve, is situated next to the Kruger National Park. The park was formed in the early 1990s when numerous farm owners removed the fences separating the farms and has since grown to about 35 000 hectares in size.
