Set in the scenic KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Millgate Cottage is set amid the beautiful countryside just off the R103, between Nottingham Road and Howick. For relaxation seekers, we offer superb accommodation in self-catering or B&B cottages in tranquil surroundings where guests enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

Millgate Cottage has two self-catering cottages with modern kitchens fully equipped with stoves, microwaves, fridge-freezers, crockery and cutlery. Selected DStv channels ensure that you will not miss your favourite sports event. Each cottage also has a verandah and braai facilities.

Millgate has three additional suites, two of which have self-catering facilities. They all come with fans, heaters, electric blankets and TVs with M-Net to make your stay a pleasant one. The views from the suites are that of a lush garden backed by forest.

Please note that additional single beds can be added on request to all the rooms. Breakfast can also be arranged on request at an extra cost.

Breakfast is available to all guests by prior arrangement. For entertainment, guests can visit the Mole and Pig which is Balgowan’s local pub where neighbours rub shoulders with tourists and Millgate Cottage’s guests. Try out the locally brewed beers and dine out in the garden alfresco. After your meal, try out a game of pool, challenge your friends at darts and have fun on the putt putt course. The pub also sports a TV with DStv.

Nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, Beacon Vlei Guest Farm offers comfortable B&B and self-catering accommodation with unrivalled views over our 23 hectare private dam, and the surrounding wetland area, which is home to hundreds of beautiful bird species, as well as a few large mammals.

Five charming self catering dwellings exist on the farm, The Boat House, Crane Cottage, Otter Cottage, Rose Cottage and Heron Cottage. Guests need not leave the farm to enjoy Bass fishing, birding, boating or a picnic after a leisurely walk around beautiful Beacon Vlei. Other outdoor activities that can be arranged in the surrounding countryside include, mountain biking, horse riding, canopy tours, battlefield tours and even paragliding.

Beacon Vlei Guest Farm is a family friendly establishment centrally located on the famed Midlands Meander, and only 1 km from Michaelhouse School. The Midlands Meander offers visitors an abundance of art and craft shops. There are also many fine restaurants, delicatessens and cheese farms in the Balgowan district, within 3 to 5 km of Beacon Vlei.
Accommodation

Our 23 hectare private dam provides excellent Bass fishing for all levels of ability, we provide boats for guests to use and life jackets, please bring your own rods and tackle. Although bass can be caught throughout the year, the best times for fishing are from September until May.

We are dedicated to providing our guests with a relaxing and therapeutic stay. Whether this means taking it easy at one of the top quality day spas in the area, or challenging yourself to something more adventurous, such as mountain biking, horse riding, canopy tours or birding the Natal Midlands Birding Route, Beacon Vlei and the KwaZulu Natal Midlands has it all! We can arrange bookings for these and other activities in the region, as well as advise on the many arts and crafts shops found on the Midlands Meander. We are also surrounded by a selection of great restaurants, and can make these reservations as well.

Beacon Vlei is a birders paradise. Some of the birds of special interest found on Beacon Vlei include the Crowned Crane, Purple Heron, African Fish Eagle, Olive Woodpecker, African Jacana and Marsh Harrier. We are confident that during the spring and summer months the multitude of birds that flock to our dam and the surrounding wetland will delight most birders. We are also extremely lucky to have a pair of Crowned Cranes nesting in the wetland around the dam. Trails, viewpoints and picnic spots around the dam and property provide our guests with hours of entertainment and relaxation.

Depending on the season, duiker, reedbuck and bushbuck can be sighted. Other wildlife on Beacon Vlei includes otters, jackal, porcupine Serval and Rooikat.

Arum Hill Lodge offers five luxurious rooms and a self-catering cottage. The two luxury King Suites both come fully equipped with king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, underfloor heating, TV with DStv and DVD player, and tea and coffee-making facilities. On site, there are three Superior Queen rooms with en-suite bathrooms, and personal TVs with DStv. Enniskerry is situated in a beautiful, peaceful valley in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, close to Michaelhouse School, Granny Mouse's Country House, Peter's Gate Herbal Centre and The Ugly Duckling Balgowan.

We have four spacious and comfortable self-catering units. All have loft bedrooms with wardrobes. Units One, Two and Three have double sleeper couches in the lounge and Unit Four has two single beds downstairs. All rooms have a bathroom with a shower and basin and a fully-equipped kitchen. Each has its own covered verandah with a small portable braai.

We have three luxurious self-catering cottages that are beautifully appointed, each with their own private garden, entrance and parking. The cottages have either queen-size or king-size beds and extra mattresses or sleeper couches can be opened up for children upon request. The house is situated on top of a hill overlooking the Woodridge Nature Reserve, where the only traffic is the train at the bottom of the valley. Wake up in the mornings to unspoilt sunrises and relax on the patio while watching zebras grazing in the reserve.

We offer three chalet-type bedrooms with separate entrances and en-suite bathrooms. Each guest room has beautiful views of the mountains and valleys. There are no self-catering facilities available, however guests can choose from a variety of nearby restaurants.

Our accommodation is only 15 minutes from Nottingham Road, 20 minutes from Howick, and 45 minutes from Pietermaritzburg.
