Alice Glockner Nature Reserve

Alice Glockner Nature Reserve is located close to the town of Heidelberg in Gauteng. It is spread out over 168 ha of land, which is home to the threatened butterfly species known as the Heidelberg copper butterfly. The particular species of ant that this butterfly is associated with can be found inside the reserve.
The reserve also holds other rare and endangered plant species such as delosperma macellum. A variety of animals roam the grassy landscape, and visitors can expect to see porcupine, duiker, meerkat, scrub hare and aardvark.
Birdwatchers can look out for some interesting birds, around 56 types have been recorded here. Other mammals of interest include reptiles and amphibians, and for those interested in cultural landmarks there are a few ruins and old mines in the reserve.
Alice Glockner is situated on the R23, around 6 km to the south west of Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve.
