Funny thing when a new place opens - suddenly you start hearing its name mentioned by all your friends, or you overhear strangers talking about it. Yeah it's that new coffee shop, you know, close to the False Bay railway station, on the corner of Albertyn Road, where the piano workshop used to be. The sun just pours in through the windows and the coffee is fantastic. Oh and I bought an awesome dining room table for almost nothing. It's crazy how cheap their second-hand furniture is. Some of it has been re-done and turned into comic book artwork, but lots are plain but really spunky. So when four out of five friends have been there and 3 of them have also come home with something that they love, you got to go there yourself. I did, I sat in an armchair in the sun while sipping a cappuccino and then took the armchair home to put in front of my own window. I'll be back soon.

Having been a Muizenberg resident for many years (now Kalk Bay), I am delighted to have discovered this unique and eclectic little eatery on Valsbaai Station actually, not Muizenberg. Try their incredible rootis, and they serve Lavazza!

A destination eatery must rely on its merits rather than its location to survive, and in this instance Kitch Kombuis can take comfort that all its fundamentals are in place.
A simple, wholesome menu offering is complemented by an endless choice of smoothies ("choose any combination of ingredients and I'll make it for you", says Derek), great coffees, teas and confectioneries - all at very fair prices.
Everything is be made to eat in or take away, and even the funky furniture and decorations which make up the magic ambience of Kitch Kombuis is for sale.
Host and owner Derek Harrison fills the space with his enthusiasm and an obvious love for what he does.
Literally just off the beaten (railway) track, Kitch Kombuis is a great meeting place and just as well suited as somewhere to escape to, with a book or a newspaper, to indulge a little.
