De Waterkant

Description

Squeezed between the V&A Waterfront, City Centre and Bo-Kaap, the trendy suburb of De Waterkant has become one of the most desirable addresses in Cape Town.

Lovingly restored quaint cottages, cobbled lanes and the vibrant village atmosphere are evocative of London’s Soho and Greenwich Village in New York. Walking down the pretty pavements past Georgian, Dutch and Asian inspired architecture with sunny terraces and flower boxes, one can’t help forgetting that this is the southern tip of Africa.

De Waterkant is just bursting at the seams with great restaurants, gay clubs, salsa clubs, tapas bars, Parisian-style cafés, the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village, and art galleries, designer stores and antique shops. It’s the favourite haunt of Cape Town’s creatives, the gay scene, fashionistas and sophisticated urbanites.

Well known as the gay-friendly hub of Cape Town, the village offers some lovely guesthouses and is within easy club-crawling distance to the trendy nightlife along Somerset Road.

I loved the area in general, one would think that since its near the cbd that its not safe but that was not the case. I loved the whole urban renewal of the area, was really impressed.
