Description

About an hour's drive from Port Elizabeth, Addo is a small farming town that's best known for its proximity to the Greater Addo Elephant National Park, which is South Africa's first 'Big Seven' reserve. As well as the usual Big Five - rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo, the park, which extends to the sea and some offshore islands, also offers sightings of southern right whales and (great) white sharks.

The park offers comfortable SANParks accommodation, as well as one luxury lodge within the reserve, but there are a number of excellent safari lodges, guest houses and B&B's on the fringes of the park. You can do a horse ride among the game in the park or ride an elephant close by. Addo is a citrus farming and horse breeding area with a very active local polo community.

Thank you for the opportunity to tell you a bit about Addo. The obvious attraction to Addo is the world renowned Addo Elephant National Park which has put Addo on the map and I am sure you know all about. The other lesser known attraction to Addo is the Rose Festival held in October every year. I am sure most people who are going to respond to your email are going to tell you about these two attractions. I however would like to tell you about the least known and talked about attraction to Addo and this region as a whole is the rich Archealogical and Paleantological history of this area.

A real rural, small, safe town. The game reserve was immaculate and breathtaking. We were fortunate to see plenty of animals.
