Knysna Oyster Festival

Where Knysna
When 2008/07/04 to 2008/07/13

The world's oyster hotspot just has to be Knysna – after all, ten days dedicated to slurping indulgence, the swigging of ice-cold Graça and sexy sensations pay tribute to a simple aphrodisiac shellfish called oyster.

What is the hype about?
There's an overwhelming array of exciting events to tantalize the oldies, boldies, foodies and kiddies. This year’s Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival will once again be the most crowded on the weekend, so be sure to linger in SA’s most popular coastal village for a while longer, as midweek events are sure to thrill oupa and lighty alike! 2007 will see the brand new programme for the little festival festinos, the Young Oyster Festival including puppet shows, a Mask and Movement workshop, teen cabaret and a cooking course. The Tabasco Oyster Hot Spots will be featuring en masse once again with more than 20 restaurants, the Knysna Tourism office and the Loerie Park festival hub offering cooked and fresh oysters en passant.

And that's not all, yet!
Wade Bales Wine Festival at Pezula, the Knsyna Sports Festival at Loerie Park, the Duesouth XTERRA, the Simola Festival Nights and the Knysna Funny Festival at Ashmead are other events not to be missed – the biggies being the Pick ‘n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour and the Pick ‘n Pay Cape Times Forest Marathon.

Not into slipping oysters down your gullet? Whether you're a sports jock, pleasure seeker, adventurous or just plain hungry, Knysna is the place to be in July. More than 80 events that range from mega-popular sport challenges to elegant evenings of wining and dining. Party goers should check out Rockspots, various live music gigs and a variety of entertainment in almost every nook and cranny on every day of the festival.
Small fry are not forgotten - the Pick n Pay Young Oyster Festival has a programme that offers something for every interest including sports, crafts, games and entertainment. So go jolling with the Knysnarians this July!

Have you booked yet? If you don’t want to sleep mid-air in the Knysna forest, on the cluttered backseat of your minibus, or stowed away in the ferry, then make your accommodation bookings for Knysna now – in the ultra-last minute! Neighbouring Sedgefield and Plettenberg Bay are alternative options (but beware the drive back to your holiday spot when laden with white wine and mouth-watering mollusks).
